To be disgusted at Lloyds branch staff smirking?

Went to a Llloyds branch today and there was an older man there who was complaining the cash machine had swallowed his card. Staff went to the cash machine and told them they could not find a card in the machine.
This man had a speech difficulty, he might have had a stroke, and was a bit scruffily dressed. After they told him there was no card there, he was protesting and saying the machine had swallowed his card. He was obviously upset.
All the counter staff including the manager, were smirking away. They obviously thought he was stupid. I just found their attitude really awful.

Yes the OP knows what she saw. Yes it is possible that he goes in there three times a day saying the same thing! But still, you know when someone is smirking in a nasty way.

Smirking is often a sign of nervousness so don’t automatically think they were being unkind.

The man may have been an arsehole to the staff.

The staff may well have been smirking, but so what, this happens. Sometimes it’s good to laugh at yourself and at other people.

He was not asking for money, he was asking for his card back.

Obviously I've no idea whether it's the case here, but it's very much known by many how to play the system regarding bank complaints in order to try and get a compensation payment. You don't simply tell staff to give you money, you present a complaint knowing that part of the complaints process may be to offer you money.

You're not a mind reader so there's no way of knowing the intentions of the staff. Calling it a smirk is your own interpretation. Others may have called it a smile. Some might have been "disgusted" if the staff DIDNT smile at the customer. I would move on with my life if I were you.

@youknowmedontyou did you get a reply from head office?

youknowmedontyou · 15/02/2019 18:31

@Magenta82 yes they bloody well gave me vouchers! Which was not my point! They did acknowledge and say they'd address the issues with the manager.

Whereareyouspot · 15/02/2019 18:34

youknowmedontyou nice one!

OP you said nothing
You missed the chance so what good is saying it on here?

Aridane · 15/02/2019 18:45

I believe you ,OP - why not drop a quick email to the address gina gives?

TheCraicDealer · 15/02/2019 18:48

You don't complain to the branch, you complain to their centralised customer service team or on Twitter. That way no one gets the opportunity to cover anyone's back or bury it before head office investigate. They'll likely take your word over the branch staffs' given you've presumably no axe to grind, so even if you get a bland reply they'll probably get a rollicking and reminder of service standards. Should shame the staff involved anyway.

I’d complain OP, and be reminding whoever I complained to that Lloyd’s use the phrase ‘By Your Side’ as a unique selling point.
It doesn’t matter one jot whether the man had genuine reasons to complain or whether he was someone known to staff for causing trouble - the way he was smirked at obviously gave you cause for concern, and it would me too. Smirking at someone for the way they speak and look makes a mockery of the company’s pretence to care about the individual.
FWIW my view is that if he was a known troublemaker, staff wouldn’t have been smirking - they would have been calling security and showing him the door.

ATBhinchers · 15/02/2019 19:06

As If a branch of a bank has "security" 😂😂😂
