To ask if you'd get the harmony test in these circumstances?

One in 655 for Down's syndrome
One in 834 for Edwards and Pataus
Low PAPP-A
2.2mm NT
Age 23

DH has said he's happy to pay for the harmony for my piece of mind, but it is a lot of money and it would be going on a credit card. Midwife isn't worried and was very vague about low PAPP-A could mean. I went into the appointment expecting my odds for everything to be in the tens of thousands, so I'm just thrown and upset and fearing the worst. Am I being over emotional, or would you get the Harmony test in these circumstances?

Low Papp-a is an indicator placental issues. In the instance of a low Papp a result, It is standard practice to start taking a low dose aspirin (cartia) until about 30 weeks which is thought to facilitate connections within the placenta and help with blood flow. Your midwife should not have been blasé about this.

Yes I would have the harmony given the numbers and your age.

I had Harmony test as I was high risk after 12 week screening.
It’s expensive but best decision I made.
I would definitely get it again before 12 weeks if I were ever pregnant again.

It was such a shock to get a phone call from a MW on a Friday evening

Welcome to a lifetime of worry! Pregnancy is preparing you for second-guessing yourself for the rest of your life! You should do whatever would enable you to relax a littke for the rest of your pregnancy, and the threshold for this is different for everyone, so only you can decide.
FWIW, my 1st daughter - now 6yo - had a 1 in 13 chance of Downs/Edwards/Patau. We took the (super expensive, as it was then) Harmony test ( we had to go to Harley Street for it then), as I knew I'd be anxious not knowing for sure. I felt I'd be best prepared knowing either way. I was 38 or 39 then though, so my odds were always gonna be higher.
Do what you feel you need to - you can pay off a loan if you feel it's what you need. Stay strong and good luck with your choice!

Hey girls,
I am 13 weeks and 2 days today. My scan went well on 1st of april. I had the abnormality blood tests and my PAPP-A was lower than it should be therefore was sent a letter to start taking aspirin. Anyone else with the same outcome I would love to hear from you !!!

MKB91 · 12/10/2020 15:00

@kateriina

Hope you are well. I have just had a phone call form my midwife also at 13+2. My Papp-A is low and have been advised to take low dose aspirin.

Do you have any updates on how it all went with you? Flowers

Feeling very worried at the moment Confused

People don’t understand risk statistics generally. They apply to populations not individuals. No one has a 29% or whatever number risk of anything. Individual risk is 100% or zero % - you either get it or you don’t. Hope things work out well for you ,

I had the harmony test with ds back in 2013. In fact it was the reason I joined MN in the first place!

I think my numbers were higher risk than yours at the stage of nhs test, and I was 35. However by the time I went for harmony test the nose bone had done whatever it was supposed to do (I can’t remember the science of it!) so if I’d just been a bit late with the nhs test I’d have have a low risk in the first place.

DS still has the tiniest nose I’ve ever seen!

Oh zombie! I wonder why someone bumped that?
