To ask to increase my hours?

I'll try and stick to the facts.

I started a new job six months ago. Full time. I tried to negotiate compressed hours (5 days into 4) but they wouldn't allow it. They allowed me to do 4.5 days but reduced my salary by £4k.

Six months down the line, it's becoming clear this role is too much for me to do on 33 hours. I've requested to go back up to 37.5 hours with the original (+£4k) salary.

They've been sitting on this for two weeks now and haven't said whether they've approved it or not. In the meantime, I'm working weekends and evenings to just stay on top of my workload with no extra pay.

Their reasoning is that they can't increase overheads, but they're also trying to double the size of the company in three years.

AIBU to ask for this? And AIBU to think they should have planned for a potential increase in salary based on their very ambitious plans?

I can see both sides. Only do what you can do in the time you have. Plan your time well. Wait to see what their decision is. If you can only do 3/4 of a job in the time you've been given then that's what you do and keep saying 'if I was full time I could fit everything in well' you've sort of made a rod for your own back by doing extra work at home so to them it looks like you can do your job with the hours you have so why should they increase the hours up and pay you more? You'll just have to wait and see the decision but be careful because if you haven't been there long and you annoy them they may just replace you with someone else

I'd stop doing the extra work and email my boss on a Monday morning with a list of all the tasks not completed

They dropped your salary by 4K because you dropped half a day?

Are you a very high earner? That seems a hefty amount for a minimal drop in hours.

I work a compressed week (5 over 4) and I’m sure if I wanted to drop half a day the drop in salary would be around £1500 a year. I’m on a salary of £30600.

I agree with a PP. Send an email of what can’t be completed and keep a diary of your activities so you can show what you’ve been doing

Stop doing the extra. Why would they pay you more when you are already doing the work for nothing?

@timeforteaplease1 - my salary was £40k. Now it's £36k
