Dd2, 3rd baby, sleeping progressively worse over last 6months. She's 12mo, I've been back at work since Nov and I'm exhausted.

She was waking 5-7 times a night, 3-4 of those after midnight. Last Friday I stopped bf in the night, I just couldn't take it any more. She has been waking fewer times but crying for longer as we rock her back to sleep.

Tonight though, she's been screaming since 7.15. Bedtime was a little late tonight, but come on! Dh has tried, I've tried. I don't know what else to do. So I'm going in every 5 mins to lie her back down, while she roars herself hoarse in between.

What else can I do??

We coslept. At one, I used to put her to bed in our bed in the middle of the bef6. She never fell out. Put a rolled up duvet on the floor if you’re worried?
Dh coslept with all of ours whilst night weaning. It’s the only way I know how to do it. They just screamed for milk from me but setttled with a cuddle from him.

When we put Dds bed next to ours she never woke up again, or if she did she must have just gone back to sleep as she never woke us up. She was just soothes by the fact she was with us.

I'd try milk during the night if she isn't settling - maybe she's still hungry ... also if you think she may be teething, boots used to do some wonderful powder that you rub on the gums, or get one of those coral necklaces - my friend's son wore his until he was 4 and she swore by it

You may have thought of this but have you ruled out reflux or other digestive issues?

EekThreek · 15/02/2019 20:14

After feeding her at 5am she slept until 7.30, which is quite good for her!

Tonight she had 9oz of milk, compared to her usual 5, and went to sleep without any fuss at all... She is so inconsistent!! 😩

I appreciate the Co sleeping advice. I will bear it in mind for future, but for now I don't think it will solve the issue of the disturbed nights. I don't know how best to describe it, but I need to have a decent break from her in the night for my sanity. I can't be the parent I need to be when I'm being drained by one of them.

To those suggesting digestive/reflux issues, this could well be possible. She had symptoms of silent reflux as a newbie, but it was never bad enough to cause major concern. She often seems uncomfortable in her skin, and I posted not long ago about her being sick after going onto cow's milk from formula. She had other digestive oddities when she was tiny, which cleared up with solids, but seem to have returned since switching from formula to cow's milk. Not sure how to test the hypothesis though!

Thanks for not flaming me last night, I was expecting vipers Wink

I kept my son on formula at night until he was about 4 ... it settled him and didn't do him any harm ... things will settle, I know it feels so shit and tiring right now, but it will come together - bless you

Weird, wrote a post that disappeared so apologies if I double post...

She only woke once last night after going to sleep so nicely. At 2am, awake for an hour, clearly in pain but seemed to be her tummy. Gave calpol, rocked to sleep eventually.

Woke at 7.30 in a really lovely mood, played nicely all morning then an hour ago i spotted a river of gunk coming from her ear. So that would probably explain the last couple of nights! Sad

She hasn't had a temperature at all, and she's been her typical lovely self in the day, but it must be the change in pressure when she lies down that sets her off. I feel terrible for not noticing before. Dd1 got frequent ear infections that always escalated quickly but she was always obviously unwell, nothing like this one!

Put the bed base and stuff stored in it in her room.

Jackshouse · 16/02/2019 12:01

Oh poor thing!

EekThreek · 16/02/2019 12:10

jacks her room isn't even as wide as a double bed 😂
She has a cot instead of a cot bed as it is because we're so limited on space in there!

It's a good excuse to get rid of stuff though.
