It barely ever works, the signal is bad, the ringtone you hear is not because the phone of the other person is ringing, it doesn’t always connect you properly, there is 8 times out of 10 a delay.

And what’s worse is you can see when the other person is online and avoiding your call which causes misunderstanding. In general if you call a mobile normally, if it’s not a good time to speak you can call someone back. On wats app you’re there “online” not picking up the call.

Group chat for events, mums groups, family groups, free phone calls. I use all these when I can it is FREE.

Seline · 14/02/2019 13:59

Most contracts have free texts and minutes.

Mosaic123 · 14/02/2019 14:00

The sound quality is significantly better if you are on wifi.

I speak to my cousin in Australia. When they moved there in 1978 calling Australia cost £1 per minute from the UK!

I never imagined it would be free.

ravenmum · 14/02/2019 14:05

My 85-year-old aunty sometimes phones me on Whatsapp. I'm not sure she realises that's what she's doing, though. 😂 I only answer calls on wifi so who knows what she thinks is going on.

Ainba · 14/02/2019 14:08

I use the call function frequently, works fine on WiFi. It's not a WhatsApp problem if your in a place with bad mobile signal.

I love WhatsApp and similar messaging services, work from home so on my WiFi a lot of the time, so some months I don't even buy a giffgaff top up bag, I just use the WiFi and messaging apps.

Littleraindrop15 · 14/02/2019 14:16

The only texts I receive are for promotions, other spam and doctors appointments. Everything else is on WhatsApp I use the video call and normal call.. Don't have problems. If you don't like what's app that's fine you can just uninstall it.

Atleast you don't have to pay for mms everytime you send an image across lol

stressed500 · 14/02/2019 14:22

agree it's annoying and unnecessary.

LightAsTheBreeze · 14/02/2019 14:23

I have never paid to send an image or else it would show in my buffer I have on my PAYG account

LightAsTheBreeze · 14/02/2019 14:24

Maybe images are included in my account with the free texts

danni0509 · 14/02/2019 14:26

@ooooohbetty how do you disable that please?

ooooohbetty · 14/02/2019 20:03

Danni059 got to settings, privacy, last seen and nobody.

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 14/02/2019 20:10

So if you can't answer the call, reject it then send a quick message saying can't talk now, will call back later.

Signal quality is entirely dependant on your own wifi/data.

I can send videos, pics, update several people at the same time, have different group chats for various activities. I wouldn't be without it.

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 14/02/2019 20:11

Oh, and of course it needs access to your contacts. It's an app to contact people on and it knows which of those contacts have WhatsApp installed and can be contacted. Hmm

danni0509 · 14/02/2019 20:22

Thanks ooooohbetty

DorothyZbornak · 14/02/2019 20:32

@danni0509, if you turn off your online visibility, you can't see anyone else's either.

JayDot500 · 14/02/2019 23:47

OP I totally understand. Despite having excellent WiFi, WhatsApp calls always seem to have some issue, especially an awful lag if the call goes on for too long. I now just reject the call and call the person back.

GreyRoses · 15/02/2019 05:11

If you disable "last seen", and are online, you do still show up as online for the time you are.

All it stops is "last seen" (and you being able to see other people).

I don't mind WhatsApp calls. It's annoying that it doesn't link to hands free in the car though - that's why I don't tend to use it.

Thinkinghappythoughts · 15/02/2019 05:36

No one can see when I'm online because I've disabled it.

How do you do this?

thegreylady · 15/02/2019 07:17

My ds and family live abroad so I always use WhatsApp.

TroysMammy · 15/02/2019 07:21

I message my sister via Whatsapp because she never replies to my texts in a timely manner, ie sometime during the day. With Whatsapp I can see if she at least has read it.

I also use it to chat and send photos to a friend in Italy.

ravenmum · 15/02/2019 08:23

You can get alternative apps like Whatsapp Plus, which allow you to hide your online status and not mark messages as read, while still being able to see others' status. You can tell if someone has it when you see them answering your message but the ticks are still not blue. I don't use it as I think it comes across a bit sneaky, due to the whole "You can't see me but I can see you" thing.

GreyRoses · 15/02/2019 10:59

@Thinkinghappythoughts you can't. The previous posters are incorrect.

You can disable "last seen" (in settings) but when you are actually online, if someone is looking at your chat with them, they can see "online":

Of course, they'd have to be actually checking all the time!

ravenmum · 15/02/2019 11:08

See my last post Smile - you can't with Whatsapp itself, but you can with modified versions of Whatsapp - these work together wth the standard Whatsapp, so you get that feature while still communicating with people using the standard version.
