To put yogurt up my foof?

CountessVonBoobs · 14/02/2019 10:38

I could name change, but fuck it. Recurrent thrush since being pregnant with DC2 and I'm fed up. Latest bout seems to have been sparked by some lube. I've got the cream, I've got the pessary, but what else can I do? What's the yogurt that you can put up there? Any other tips people can give?

Plain live yogurt.

Myusernameismud · 14/02/2019 10:40

Plain live yoghurt works a treat. Slather that shit on and sit, legs akimbo for as long as you possibly can.

PikaPikaTink · 14/02/2019 10:41

If you mix a couple of drops of tea tree oil with coconut oil and put it in the fridge to make a pessary it's very soothing. But please check you are not allergic to tea tree oil first and only put a tiny amount in.

wigglypiggly · 14/02/2019 10:41

Don't use lube, ask the pharmacist about taking the combined tablet and pessary, live bio yogurt on a tampon, cotton knicks, no bubble bath.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 14/02/2019 10:42

Any live yoghurt, but I wouldn't recommend the fruity ones Smile

I used it to calm the immediate itch and it really worked well.

But you need to use the Dual canestan pill and pessary or cream to get rid of it forever!

Before you could get it over the counter I was told by a nice GP that DH should probably take the pill too, though it wasn't tested/approved for men. So I 'lost' my first prescription and we both took the pill on the same day. I've not had a recurrence since (20 years and counting).

Ask your local pharmacist!

CountessVonBoobs · 14/02/2019 10:43

Does anyone else find that they've got it from a lube? I'm wondering if DH managed to pick up a particularly sugary lube or something. Or was it the shagging and the lube was just a red herring?

Trip to the yogurt aisle in Lidl it is then... WIBU to use a Calpol syringe to get it up in there?

Research suggests that yogurt is better than most treatments.

Is your Partner being treated?

HedgehogGirl · 14/02/2019 10:43

IME yoghurt helps a lot with the itching and discomfort. Never managed to cure it with yoghurt alone though. I had recurrent thrush (not pregnancy-related) and it turned out I'd given it to my partner, who was symptom-free. Once he got treated and I boil-washed all my undies I was fine!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 14/02/2019 10:45

Yes to the syringe. My nice GP provided me with a couple for the yoghurt application. Seems she was a bit of a synpathetic expert Smile

Birdsgottafly · 14/02/2019 10:46

It could the the lube or sex.

Go for a plain lube, I know Women who go for the original KY Jelly.

CountessVonBoobs · 14/02/2019 10:47

Oh, DH has to be treated? Every day is a school day. Can he get OTC stuff or does this mean a GP visit?

OP posts:
honeylane · 14/02/2019 10:50

I got it from using Aldi sanitary towels

Might be worth considering

CuriousaboutSamphire · 14/02/2019 10:53

OTC these days! Even ebay!

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 14/02/2019 10:58

Yep DH needs treating too otherwise you could just keep passing it between you both. Once all clear try multigyb actigel. It’s good for keeping everything balanced down there.

CountessVonBoobs · 14/02/2019 11:02

Thanks all.

I messaged DH to give him his marching orders (in the direction of a pharmacy), and threw in a "Happy Valentine's Day!" for good measure.

Now to look shifty-eyed about my dairy product purchases on the school run.

I used to get this all the time in pregnancy. I used to run a shallow bath with just a bit of water, pour in a whole bottle of Apple cider vinegar and just sit for half an hour.

BadBear · 14/02/2019 11:04

I kept getting it thinking it was thrush so kept buying the over the counter stuff but nothing. I was relieved for a bit but it kept returning.

Went to the local sexual health clinic as they do tests for it, it was bacterial vaginosis which apparently is very similar to thrush. Something had altered my vagina's pH, antibiotics for five days and (touch wood) it hasn't come back.

pumpastrotter · 14/02/2019 11:08

I had to do it when I was pregnant! I got natural yogurt from H&B, covered a tampon and did the job.

I've had it about 3/4 times, first pregnant and every other time after using lube! Only Durex doesn't set me off. When I had an internal scan at the hospital the stuff they used gave me a right issue - same for my best friend who had one a few weeks later.

RomanyQueen1 · 14/02/2019 11:11

It needs to be plain live yoghurt and works until the next time, it gives good relief.
Have you tried the once tablet for you and your partner. Me and dh did this about 10 years ago and haven't had any since.
It's not cheap, but does the trick.

Serenity45 · 14/02/2019 11:22

I honestly have nothing to add to all the good advice by pp but this has got to be one of the best thread titles. Made me choke on my squash!

lilydilly · 14/02/2019 11:28

Make an appointment with the GP and ask them for terbinafine

Good luck @CountessVonBoobs

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 14/02/2019 11:34

Might be worth picking up the thrush/bacterial vaginosis indicator. It’s about £10 from Asda etc, and tells you which one infection you have. If it’s thrush both of you treat yourselves before having sex again. If it’s bacterial vaginosis you can pick up the 7 day gels that you empty into your vagina each bedtime again for about £8. This can’t be passed onto men so just treat yourself. (I’ve just finished my week on it!).

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 14/02/2019 11:36

By the way BV is normally identified by a ‘fishy’ smell. However, it’s not always ‘fishy’ can just be a strong smell, unlike the normal smell of your vagina, and discharge that can differ in colour like a greyish tinge.

RomanyQueen1 · 14/02/2019 11:40

try this one.

Re the lube, there's one from Holland and Barrett which should be OK (I speak from experience).
It's called Yes WB and it contains aloe vera which is actually meant to help treat/prevent thrush according to Dr Google.
And I've found wearing skirts/hold ups really helps too rather than constantly living in my jeans, and also cutting out as much sugar from my diet as possible
Good luck, thrush is horrible
