To panic about my throat?

Another thread about my tonsils which seem to be taking over my life.

My tonsils swell up every 4 weeks or so. It's usually completely tolerable and unnoticeable (the pain).
This time, they swelled up on Wednesday (a week ago). I went to the OOH doctor on Friday night as I was in a lot of pain and I was told they couldn't do anything. By the time I got to Monday and could go to my GP, I was in so much pain it was unreal- I had to take half the day off work and drag myself in that afternoon. They gave me antibiotics and told me to just keep on top of paracetamol/ibuprofen. I've been taking antibiotics for just over 2 days now. I've had another day off work because the pain has kept me up crying at night. The swelling is not reducing, I'm really struggling to swallow, the pain isn't subsiding even slightly after painkillers anymore and generally, they're just getting progressively worse!
AIBU to panic now? Painkillers aren't working, antibiotics aren't improving anything.
Or do I need to be more patient? Sad
The pain is just unreal, I write this awake because I'm almost crying the pain is so bad, I'm just drained.

Dispersable cocodamol is your friend here. Should be able to get some over the counter at the pharmacy.

I have had the exact same thing. My neck glands are really swollen and throat so sore I don't know what to do. I had a weeks antibiotics and it is still not better. I have been having cold ice cream and hot blackcurrant flu drink as contains paracetamol and throat too sore to swallow paracetamol tablets. I have also been using chloraseptic spray which totally numbs throat. It is the only thing that has helped. I had tonsils removed as a child but apparently one stump has grown back and this is where infection is. I have had this now for 11 days and only slightly better now than at beginning.
