To be in agonising pain and not know why

Seline · 13/02/2019 22:12

Always had a bad back but over the last few days I am in agony. It's the top of my back shoulders and neck. Hurts constantly. Hurts to touch but if pressed it sort of relieves it despite the pain.

I can barely move my arms and neck today. This is problematic as I have three young kids.

What is it and what can I do about it? Feels like my body is slowly curling to one side.

Posted here as need answers fast.

You need to see a doctor.

I know it's hard making time for self-care when you have several small children, it's something I'm guilty of doing myself, but you can't carry on in pain.

GP tomorrow or if you're in a great deal of pain then 111 tonight.

Absolutely you need to see the GP.

Iggly · 13/02/2019 22:17

If you’ve got a hot water bottle try that or a warm bath.

Do you have a partner? Can’t they help while you see a doctor.

Get to your local walk in centre/urgent treatment centre asap

go to out of hours or GP in the morning. To potentially dangerous to ignore.

Seline · 13/02/2019 22:23

I will see someone in the morning. I've broken vertebrae before but this doesn't feel like that this feels muscular. Any ideas what it is? I reckon it's from holding the kids so often, I've got two reflux twins and one large toddler with special needs so all end up being held quite often!

Possibly Torticollis? Neck spasms. If so you need to see a doc for painkillers and muscle relaxant. It's absolute agony, I can sympathise

EwItsAHooman · 13/02/2019 22:27

Could be a trapped nerve or damage to the muscles or ligaments, definitely needs checking out though.

It's so painful. It's worse on my dominant side too so using my arm is a pain. It's gradually been creeping up and now it's unbearable.

This was me a few months ago - I injured my back pumping (stopped 18 months ago) and it flared up after using a crap chair while using the laptop for a couple of long days. My muscles went into spasm and I was in agony. Doctor prescribed me diazepam (not a very high dose so it did help but not as much as I’d hoped) and I had to rest for a couple of days (not easy with toddler twins). Can anyone help you with the kids? How old are they?

Kids are 3 and 4 months. Yeah I can get someone to help, my husband works during the day but I've got family and friends here and eldest is luckily in nursery tomorrow. Mine started when pumping too

This sounds like sort of what I get if I miss a physio session. Stretch your arms out along the back of the sofa, tip your head forward to press your chin on your chest and just hold the position for a minute.

If you know of a decent physio or chiropractor near you then I'd encourage you to go. Ignoring stressed muscles only makes it worse.

wigglypiggly · 13/02/2019 22:42

I'd see a doctor, you could have damaged something and you have a history of spine problems. You can call 111 for advice especially as it's so painful.

Seline · 13/02/2019 22:46

I think I probably need physio yes. I had it repeatedly as a child on my legs and back, I don't think a reason or cause was ever found but I kept getting problems with muscles.

Pumping is so bad for your back - two years on it’s still a mess
