"Happy Valentines Day'

I've just seen the card DH has bought to give me tomorrow. It says 'Happy Valentines Day' Blush

I feel so sad. Usually he buys a funny wife, love you lots kind of card. The card he has bought could be for anyone...and has no love, no joy...just 'Happy Valentines Day'.

Please be gentle with me. I'm not being ungrateful...

I don't know why there's a star there, that was supposed to be a laughing face.

I like the sound of a relationship where you can just say 'i'd rather have a custard slice!'

DH and I don't do Valentines but cards for other occasions are important to me and I would be upset if he bought me a thoughtless card. Thanks for you OP. Hopefully he'll write something lovely in it.

OP, without being mean, try and read your post as a 3rd party....

For our first Valentines Day as a married couple DH got me a Valentines card that said 'to my husband'. It wasn't a big deal but I can see how, if a couple were already going through a rough patch, it could be seen as carelessness and/or thoughtlessness.

You say youve had a bad year so Is it possible if you have been through a tough time lately as a couple that he feels he hasn't the right to do the normal jokey wife card and this is an acknowledgement that there has been a shift in your relationship?
Focus on the fact that your coming through the difficult time and that your relationship is evolving, and he still wants you to be his Valentine. X

A card is just a piece of paper (card!) you throw away. I understand what you're saying 100%, in fact when DH and I were in a bad patch I deliberately bought him a happy birthday card with no gushing 'to my darling husband etc etc' sentiments for a couple of years. But you say things have been better and are going well, so if you do the Valentine's thing maybe go for making it a big deal and do an actual, physical thing of love rather than rely on a card. So a really nice dinner and dessert meal deal followed by a film, a trip to the pub, a bottle of whatever you both drink for once kids are in bed, bath or shower together, make it clear you want to jump his bones or snuggle under a duvet with a box set- belatedly at the weekend if logistics get in the way. Whichever one of the above or whatever else works for your own situation. A card is just a sentiment but Valentine's day can be a nice reminder to keep a bit of romance going if you like that sort of thing. But do something and let him know you're hoping to do something, and then keep doing whatever it is every now and then, it is just a day but the reminder can be a boost in the right direction if you're on track and want to remain so.

He got a 2 pack of custard slices and a 2 pack of chouix buns Grin

The thread isn't about Valentines day....
Start another thread and say what you really want to say. Too many people (including me) don't care about cards...
