To cancel our weekend with friends

We have been invited to stay with some friends this weekend at their country place. We made the plan weeks ago and I've been looking forward to it.

Unfortunately DD and DH are both ill. DD has had a week off school with flu, went back today but felt so awful she had to go straight to bed when she got home. I have said she shouldn't go in tomorrow although she wants to go. DH has the same flu and took three days off work (unheard of). He's now back at work but full of Lemsip etc (not great, obv).

In an ideal world we wouldn't be going away at the weekend- both DD and DH could do with a quiet time recovering rather than a busy weekend with friends (doing lots of outdoor activities and pub lunches was the plan).

I'm not sure what to do. Cancelling now seems incredibly rude, especially as I don't know whether either DD or DH will be formally unwell (if you see what I mean) at the weekend or just recuperating. On the other hand, it will be no fun if we turn up and the two of them are miserable or worse, still infectious.

WWYD?

Not unreasonable to cancel/ defer but PHONE don't be discourteous and text. And sooner rather than later so they don't waste time with the unnecessary cleaning and tidying they'll do for guest or incur costs for extra food, provisions etc

You might all be fine by Saturday. I'd warn them but cancel nothing for now. If DH is ok by then (which he probably will be) I'd just hug DD a lot and take the pushchair.

I would much rather people cancelled than bring me their germs.

Oblomov19 · 13/02/2019 21:12

Text them or call them and just warn them. You might be still fine to go.

I'm fed up with everyone being bloomin' ill this winter so i'd want you stay at home and come another time when you're all germ free :)

Hi @Justforonequestion

So sorry to hear that your family is so unwell. I really hope they recover for your weekend away but if they do not then its best to not go and I am sure your friends will understand as they also will not want to get sick.

However, I do have a very good home made flu medicine recipe which my husband made for me and my mum recently and we were better within days.

Ingredients

3/4 green limes
2/4 lemons
1 raw garlic bulb
1 raw piece of ginger
Honey
small (very fine) sieve
blender (good enough to cut ice)

Instructions

Peel the 3/4 limes and cut into 4 small pieces for each lime.
Do the same for the lemons.
Peel one bulb of garlic and chop it into very small pieces.
Do the same with the ginger however only use half of the ginger.
You will then take all of these prepared ingredients and add them to the blender and blend well for long enough so that the garlic/ginger can be easily broken down.

After this you will need to pour the contents from the blender into a small bowl and then use the sieve to pour the contents over it into another bowl. You do this to extract the juice from the blended ingredients.

After you extract the juice you then add a small amount of water to this and then add the honey and stir the juice. It should look like a milky coloured juice.

After we are finished making it we often pour the juice into an empty water bottle and then we simply pour the requirement about to take each time into a cup. You do not need to take a lot each time, only around 1 inch to 1.5 inch worth at the bottom of a mug.

I was very unhappy with the cold last week and I had an operation scheduled. My husband made me this and I was 90% by the time I went into surgery. My mum then asked my husband to make it for her when she became sick. Natural products such as the garlic and ginger are the main ingredients that contribute towards recovery. You can heaven up if you want but I drink cold.

I really hope this is of help to you whether you go away on the weekend or not.

@Justforonequestion

Also we take every 4 hours!

Cancel. I've had this flu and it exhausts you for a few weeks.
