"Anger over 'naked men' at unisex changing rooms"

DH says maybe they are sort of adjusting to it perhaps! I'm not sure how would feel, go to the other pool myself but would find this a bit off-putting especially with girls.

Given on any thread about children and changing rooms is met by calls for it to be gender neutral because boys can’t possibly get changed alone I guess this falls into the “you can’t have everything” side of things.

Perhaps if people aren’t happy by the behaviours of others they should raise the issue with the centre who can look at soloutions rather than run to the media

WeeMadArthur · 13/02/2019 13:43

I stopped using our local pool after they unveiled the new family changing village as even though there were private shower cubicles it was very obvious that someone was having a noisy wank in their shower cubicle.

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 13/02/2019 13:43

We have had these in my local pools in Dublin for years. Never been an issue, all the lockers are communal and then there are shower cubicles and changing cubicles for anyone to use. Seems to work, haven’t seen too many old men or women wandering around naked.

WeeMadArthur · 13/02/2019 13:44

Oh and I raised it with staff but by the time I had found someone to complain to the wanker had gone.

Ghanagirl · 13/02/2019 13:45

Sounds horrible

MrsScamander · 13/02/2019 13:46

If there are cubicles I don't see a massive issue, if it's a changing room like in most gyms, where there are no cubicles and just open spaces then I absolutely see the problem.

My local pool has communal showers where people wash with their costumes on, all the lockers are together and there is a mix of individual, family and disabled cubicles. I've never seen any man or woman wonder round naked.

feelingverylazytoday · 13/02/2019 13:47

I've used unisex changing villages for years without incident. They need to be very clear that costumes/clothes must be worn in communal areas, and mobile phones are not allowed.

Very poor article.

How exactly do you parade around naked?

They make it sound like a nudist march.

And some children burst in on me once while I was naked. Should I have paid for counselling for them, rather than just calmly ordering them out again? Or is it just willies that traumatise children?

youarenotkiddingme · 13/02/2019 13:51

I wonder if it's like the ones at my leisure centre that have been there about a decade I reckon!

There's lockers down one side, the centre is rows of cubicles back to back. They have bars of wood over so can't be climbed iyswim?

Then there is male showers and a communal Male changing room and also a female one.

I know kids have said before (swim club) there naked men in showers (they've been in sauna). But they've never walked in the changing room naked.
Kids were told not to go in showers if they felt uncomfortable or wait until they came out.

I did say I have no idea why these men would want to be naked in front of teenage boys - especially when they know the 20 minute timeframe they are all in there for.

But the changing village has never seemed an odd concept to me.

I must say I prefer a mixed changing village myself, our boys were blithering idiots for far longer than they were young enough to be in the ladies.

feelingverylazytoday · 13/02/2019 13:57

FrancisCrawford still an isolated case though, isn't it.

riotlady · 13/02/2019 13:57

We have a mixed changing area at our pool and have never seen anyone parading about naked! Dunno what the men of Bath are on

DontCallMeCharlotte · 13/02/2019 14:04

Maybe he was just washing it very fast? Wink

I can’t say I’ve ever seen anyone parading naked in the mixed changing areas in the leisure centre I’ve used. There are lots of cubicals and lockers and I like having a big family changing room.

Yabbers · 13/02/2019 14:12

Our local pool changing rooms are mixed use and have been for as long as I remember. If anyone is behaving inappropriately then they should be reported.

OrchidInTheSun · 13/02/2019 14:12

Hundreds and hundreds of cases. Mixed changing rooms increase sexual offences enormously

Vixxxy · 13/02/2019 14:15

An addition to single sex changing would be welcomed by me. But it seems its just making current areas mixed sexs, rather than adding another option. Our local pool is single sex (for now) but I know they have came under heavy criticism from TRAs because of this. They made the male changing areas smaller (I assume because men tend to take less time getting ready) and added a couple of family changing rooms. Which seems to suit all.

Tinty · 13/02/2019 14:17

How exactly do you parade around naked?

You obviously haven't met many men. Grin

How did introducing family changing rooms satisfy the TRAs?

At my private gym we have a female changing room with no cubicles so we all just change in communal area. Males have similar own area. I would not pay to be member if males were going to change in female area. No reason why males and females can't have own areas. Children over 7 should use own sex changing rooms.

Home77 · 13/02/2019 14:30

I wonder if it might be as it has change, someone mentioned there's had been mixed for years but this is new. No, it's not a closed off type changing room but more central ones I think.

And about them considering changes, they just have changed it, they have had plenty of opportunity to think about that last year when they made the changes.

Home77 · 13/02/2019 14:31

They have family changing rooms, well they did have, would that not suit the younger boys for changing, then after 7 can use their own rooms?
