To think this can't be an uncommon situation?

I've been waiting to see a psychologist on the NHS for nearly a year. Have seen a psychiatrist and been sent a letter stating that I am to be referred to a psychologist. I have extensive trust issues and despite trying several times I just cannot make myself open up and be honest or vulnerable with another woman. I just can't do it. So I requested to see a man instead. It's still difficult but I can manage it once I've met them a few times. I also have a family member who works in administration and frequently ends up working with adult mental health services within this job. So I've asked them to make sure that she doesn't see anything relating to me through her job.

I've now had a phone call saying that they can't guarantee confidentiality from my family member and that the don't have any male psychologists on staff and perhaps I should try SERIC.

AIBU to think that confidentiality from one bloody person cannot possibly be that difficult and there is no way that they don't have a single male psychologist in the whole region? Surely they should be able to deal with this and I shouldn't be denied treatment? What do they do with men who don't want to see a woman? Just not treat them?

I also think that a year is ridiculous considering I was an urgent referral due to suicidal intent and no rl support network.

AIBU?
