ibblebibbledibble · 12/02/2019 09:45

Looking online for some new frames and I found these that I like the look of but they are under the male list?
Is there anything particularly manly about them i’m Missing?! They don’t have pictures of penises or anything like that 🤷‍♀️

If you like the style, you should get whatever you like. However, you may find that because they are men's, they might be too big for your face. Check the dimensions before buying.

Blondiecub0109 · 12/02/2019 09:49

YANBU I have frames from the men’s section. #letglassesbeglasses

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 12/02/2019 09:50

I have men’s glasses. I just liked the shape better than the women’s ones.

I would say try them first. The shape and frames are totally fine in size, but the arms are much longer than you would expect. It’s not an issue, just be aware of it.

Purposeless · 12/02/2019 09:52

I've often chosen men's frames. Always in high street opticians, because they adjust the fit. Make sure you get the smallest size - you're likely to have a smaller head than a typical man. I like those frames btw!

MrsBrill · 12/02/2019 09:54

OP I have wide cheekbones and always find that glasses look too small for me. The other day I tried on my Dh's specs and they looked much better than mine i might nick them

What an eye opener (pun not intended). I'm definitely getting men's frames next time. Yanbu of course.

SayNoToCarrots · 12/02/2019 09:54

FFS. No.

When I narrow down frames by the size of my head, they are all "men's". I wear them on my face, not my genitals. Not an issue.

KatharinaRosalie · 12/02/2019 09:56

Go for it. So stupid to gender glasses. I don't think they are meant to be worn on testicles.
(I always buy men's running shoes as well - I have wide feet and in most models, the men's shoe in exactly the same size is wider and more comfortable. they also come in other colours besides pink).

Chouetted · 12/02/2019 10:00

Check the length of the arms. I have to buy "men's" glasses, as apparently my head is too big to be female.

I just wish they'd stop gendering frigging glasses.

ibblebibbledibble · 12/02/2019 10:01

Thank you all, i thought they’d be fine but worried I was missing something! I might check the size compared to my other glasses and see how they compare first. I’m not a petite lady so I’d imagine they’re fine.

Yes I wear men’s running shoes too for the width.

YANBU. I wear glasses from the Specsavers teenage range because I have a very small head and adult glasses are too big for me.

OftenHangry · 12/02/2019 10:31

I did. Look very similar to women's ones, actually better and were £30 cheaper😁
NO ONE sees the difference

Purposeless · 12/02/2019 11:23

Men's frames are also pleasantly devoid of decorative bits on the arms. You know the sort of thing - gilt flourishes, giant logos etc.

Stadt · 12/02/2019 11:32

Iv just got glasses and chose some 'mens' frames. It doesn't matter what the label says if you like them

cardibach · 12/02/2019 11:33

My prescription sunglasses are men’s frames as they have bigger lenses and I like large sunglasses. Agee with PPs - why do glasses need to be gendered?

Annabk · 12/02/2019 11:40

“Men's frames are also pleasantly devoid of decorative bits on the arms. You know the sort of thing - gilt flourishes, giant logos etc.”

Yes to this. Don’t think I have ever picked up frames from the ‘womens’ section. Daft concept anyway; of course glasses are unisex.

juneau · 12/02/2019 11:43

I wear a pair of men's frames! The optician actually selected them for me to try on last time I wanted new glasses and it wasn't until I was looking online to see if i could find them that I realised that they're classified as men's. They don't look particularly mannish though and I'm not a big woman at all - I'm actually rather small - so go for the style you want and ignore what they're labelled as.

FooFighter99 · 12/02/2019 11:56

I've had mens frames from SpecSavers (cos ive got a big head!!!) and I'm wearing unisex Superdry frames at the moment Grin

Most of the time you can't tell who a frame is for (unless theyre pink and sparkly) so just go for it!

Alleycat1 · 12/02/2019 12:01

I nearly always buy glasses from the men's section because I prefer the squared lenses and non-decorative frames. Wear what you like.

GoShittyItsYourBday · 12/02/2019 12:08

Short answer. No.
Long answer. Unless its shaped like a penis with the intention to hold a penis inside it, a woman wearing a 'mens' anything is fine.

EduCated · 12/02/2019 12:20

YANBU, although it blew the mind of the person in Vision Express that I was merrily perusing both sides of the shop. I have a big head anyway so tend to find more styles that fit labelled ‘mens’ and favour plainer styles.

Do you know about glasses having the sizing printed inside the arm? Was a revelation for me and meant I found similar sized ones much easier!

ljbrad · 12/02/2019 13:01

As long as they fit it isn't a problem. I have reguarly recommended 'mens' glasses to ladies - but they are often wider and longer, so not suitable if you have a smaller head!

MulticolourMophead · 12/02/2019 13:24

If you find frames that fit and suit you/what you want, then pick them. Just check the dimensions to make sure they'll fit, eg compare to any glasses you currently have.

(I've also bought men's trainers before, they're wider at the toe and I have wide feet.)

southnownorth · 12/02/2019 13:25

It's fine just check the size. Most frames are unisex.

allmycats · 12/02/2019 14:41

The size is 50x18, so this is quite small anyway, it doesn't matter what 'gender' spx you wear as long as they fit you. I work in an opticians'
and we have many women who wear 'mens' spx. It's the fit that counts, nothing else.

RollaCola84 · 12/02/2019 15:29

At the opticians I use most glasses are listed as unisex. I think the last fifteen years the only glasses I've bought are sunglasses. Definitely NBU.
