I even offered one of these 16/17 year olds a job (admin for my business) and they never turned up. Cba

hazell42 · 11/02/2019 18:39

Very few people will employ a kid who turns up with a CV. So yabu for that.
There is work, but the days of printed CVs are pretty much over.
I'd they have no qualifications or experience, better to sign up with an agency and get some

BejamNostalgia · 11/02/2019 18:42

YABVU to think that’s how recruitment works these days. They’d be wasting their time.

icelollycraving · 11/02/2019 18:48

Very few companies accept paper cvs these days!

NeopreneMermaid · 11/02/2019 19:04

Worse are the parents who post on behalf of their offspring.

Dinsey70 · 11/02/2019 19:07

YABU

HoraceCope · 11/02/2019 20:47

oh yes the parents!
aargh, do they ever get anywhere?

my dcs take their CV's round, on foot, and get work, agree a CV might be outmoded, but at least putting in an appearance must give you better opportunity

the companies might not accept paper cvs, but at least say Apply Online, rather than offer work via facebook!

Depends where they give out their CV. Some employers state that they don't accept paper Cv's, phone calls or emails about the job. They just want an application as there are so many people applying for 1 position.

Bombardier25966 · 11/02/2019 20:50

If they can apply online then they need to be doing that at home, not walking round businesses. More constructive to identify local employers and find out how they prefer to accept applications.

sirmione16 · 11/02/2019 20:50

I work for a large national brand and we are actually not allowed to accept paper CVs due to GDPR restrictions now, we direct people to our website to apply, and if one gets in through a member of staff accidentally then they have to be shredded immediately (the CV not the staffBlush)

HoraceCope · 11/02/2019 20:52

I quite often often work for the 17 year olds but they always seem to be imminently moving house

I advertise jobs on fb but when people ask me to message them I ask them to message me via my page. If they can't manage to do that it's unlikely they can do the job. If I've advertised elsewhere online I ask for a cv and the amount of emails I get with just "interested, call me on xxxx" is unreal!

HoraceCope · 11/02/2019 20:53

@sirmione but would you answer their facebook ad?
