I've found out I have a deviated septum with a bone spur as well as enlarged turbinates. I probably have to have surgery but in the meantime my ENT has instructed me to use a netipot type object.

My lovely son has been telling me about brain eating amoeba all afternoon and I'm terrified I'm going to get one lol. I currently only have access to boiled water. Any advice? I dont want my brain to get eaten Shock

It's like waterboarding yourself

GummyGoddess · 11/02/2019 10:59

I only use if I have a cold. It's not pleasant but it does clear blockages.

Ansumpasty · 11/02/2019 10:59

I bot the bottle netti rinse and used the sachets that came with it. Washed out the most disgusting thing i’d ever seen from my sinus cavity and my 3 month headache vanished

Waterbottle1999 · 11/02/2019 11:01

What kind of water did you use? Is boiled fine?

I think the brain eating amoeba was because the patient was using tap water. Boiling water should kill anything alive in it, I think it's just really important to use sterile water!!

allotmentgardener · 11/02/2019 12:41

I was always told to use cooled boiled water with a tiny pinch of salt as our fluids are slightly salty and saline fluid is therefore better for you.

Feels really weird but definitely cleans you out.
Although I now use my netipot as a indoor watering can.... Blush

I use one for sinus/allergy problems. Life-changing for me.

Brain eating amoeba definitely was from using non-sterile water - cooled, boiled water is fine. Use when the water is mildly warm, not completely cold.

I buy tubs of the saline solution salt (Nasaline is the brand) from Biovea as it works out very cheap. You can also get pre-measured sachets.

Is it possible to netipot a 3 year old?
My DD is just full of snot non stop from September until May pretty much and it's miserable. Those saline nasal sprays do absolutely nothing.

QuintadiMalago · 11/02/2019 13:01

I've used one, it's a weird sensation but it really does work, definitely use cooled boiled water not tap water. I boil the kettle, wash out the Neti pot with some boiling water, put the salt in, then fill the pot and wait for the water to cool down and then use it. You'll need to get the head tilt right but when it works it's amazing

MitziK · 11/02/2019 13:13

No brain eating if you use cooled, boiled water.

It works. Might not seem like it at first, especially as your sinuses could be very tender and swollen, but you normally find out a few minutes later that it really works.

christinarossetti19 · 11/02/2019 14:09

Safe for all ages snickers, but not sure how you'd get a three year old to do it as the sensation is initially quite strange.

Maybe some guidelines on youtube?
