Posting here mainly for traffic

Recently I’ve had twitchy muscles, feeling shattered, tense muscles, feeling constantly on edge, lip and eye twitches and anxiety.
I do get anxiety and know these can be caused by that, but I wondered if it could also be a magnesium deficiency as it seems to fit and has sort of suddenly come on.

Just wondered if anyone else has had it and what symptoms they experienced? I have a separate problem with my vision which is being looked into (pardon the pun!) but that is based around a muscle contraction too which it seems that magnesium can cause.

The only thing is I eat a fair amount of broccoli and cabbage and dark chocolate so am wondering if it would even be possible.

I find if I take magnesium I sleep better (and can get to sleep as well).

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 10/02/2019 16:28

I have been suffering from restless legs recently and have read this can be due to a magnesium shortage. There is a magnesium spray you can get that you spray on your body, seems to have really good reviews and has almost cured people's muscle problems.

Try a multivitamin contacting magnesium and see if you feel better?

mimibunz · 10/02/2019 16:29

How old are you OP? Could be dehydration or peri-menopause?

Aberforthsgoat · 10/02/2019 16:31

@mimibunz 34 so hope it’s not peri as we are still TTC our first after a couple of losses!
Maybe it’s not magnesium then as I sleep fine, I just wake up feeling knackered!

mimibunz · 10/02/2019 16:47

Perhaps have a blood panel run and take a multi-vitamin. Hormonal changes can also lead to increased anxiety and general fatigue.

Aberforthsgoat · 10/02/2019 17:03

Thanks @mimibunz not a bad shout. I have a doctors appointment this week so I will
Mention it then

I think I’ve also got a bit of a virus at the moment which combined with anxiety probably isn’t helping matters either
Was just wondering whether it was worth trying a magnesium spray

I didn't feel great recently, stress, anxiety and very low thoughts. Felt terrible. Went to a local health food store and was recommended magnesium and b vits plus b12. Within 48 hours the difference was marked - felt much, much better. Can't recommend enough.

Aberforthsgoat · 10/02/2019 17:16

@richpetunia that’s really interesting - can I ask what tablets you got? I didn’t realise they could make a difference that quickly

Could you buy some magnesium flakes to have a bath in every day? I do this for the kids. I’ve heard the spray can be a bit tingly

mooncuplanding · 10/02/2019 17:56

I take a magnesium supplement and it’s the only supplement I’ve ever taken that I’ve noticed any difference on

I sleep so much better and I’m sure it’s contributed to being more ‘aware’

The soil doesn’t have as much magnesium in it as it had in history and there are estimates that 80% of the population have magnesium deficiency

MeetJoeTurquoise · 10/02/2019 18:03

I use a magnesium spray and that's helped my Rls andterrible cramps.

Aberforthsgoat · 10/02/2019 18:06

For those that have seen a difference what kind of symptoms were you getting before?

OP posts:
WholeL0ttaRosie · 10/02/2019 18:11

I take magnesium supplements because i had an eye twitch that was driving me crackers plus I was grinding my teeth when asleep, I read a thread on here about magnesium deficiency and thought it couldn't hurt to give it a try. The twitch has gone and I stopped grinding literally the first 48 hours of taking magnesium, and I also noticed random aches and pains that I'd just put down to getting older had gone too.

EvaHarknessRose · 10/02/2019 18:19

I’m menopausal and my wrist, elbows, knees and shoulders were taking it in turns to be ridiculously achy. I started taking a bunch of supplements (only really because they were sitting in the cupboard - D3, Iodine, B12 etc) but also using magnesium spray on whichever joints were aching that night (I got it for dd but she never used it). Now I have to improvise where to spray because my joints feel so much better. I have the eye twitch thing too and I believe I had restless arms (which is a thing).

SweatyUnderboob · 10/02/2019 18:22

Epsom salt baths are amazing, good way to get magnesium into the body. Soak for 12+ minutes to absorb it.

Don’t buy the pouches either, you can get a huge tub on amazon, something like 5kilos for a tenner.

Aberforthsgoat · 10/02/2019 18:32

I suppose it can’t hury to try
Can’t decide whether to take tablet from or spray... how much magnesium do you take a day if tablets?

OP posts:
Aberforthsgoat · 10/02/2019 18:33

Thanks for the tip @sweatyunderboob great name btw

A question for those who take magnesium, which type do you take as some of them are not so good?

After reading this article I never did buy any magnesium because the better ones are not easy to find in shops, expensive online and you need to know which one to buy.

Seagullslanding · 10/02/2019 18:43

I had very achy sore legs and very painful thumb /wrist points.

arthritis was ruled out so my GP sent me to an advanced physiotherapist. After a very bizarre consultation, the physio explained that messages from my brain weren't getting to my quads. The reason.....magnesium deficiency.

The physio told me to take a double dose of magnesium for 2 weeks and then switch to regular dose. he also recommended magnesium flakes for the bath

after 2 weeks the difference was remarkable. I still take magnesium daily and can tell if I miss it for a couple of days.

I was also told what mooncuplanding has written. lots of people are deficient and we can rely on diet alone due to the soil content.

I am also menopausal.

MeetJoeTurquoise · 10/02/2019 18:49

Spring I use the Better You one from either H&B or Amazon. It's a spray one.

Aberforthsgoat · 10/02/2019 18:55

Do you reckon it would sort out tense neck/shoulders?

Just a note to anyone reading this considering magnesium for depression, please research the magnesium l-threonate form

RichPetunia · 10/02/2019 19:07

In response to previous request - I am taking 150mg magnesium and b vits with b12 (3 tabs
