To not turn up to a party?

So I've just hosted a party for my DS. A relative was suppose to come along (confirmed yesterday) but didn't attend. Apparently relative went shopping and lost track of time.
AIBU to be really annoyed??

How old is DS, did he notice? How close is the relative?

It depends, I think. How old is DS? Did he know they were coming? How close a relative is it? Was it something like an activity you'd catered and paid for?

On the face of it that sounds really bad but I guess it depends a little bit. If it was a soft play party for four year olds and the relative wasn't needed on hand to help I can see why they would feel it wasn't important (they would probably assume they can do a proper family birthday a different time).

I did this to my ds' very good friend in the xmas holidays - very accidental and absolutely not something I would normally do. Did ds notice and has the relative got form for this sort of thing?
