Had my cards read today, very interesting and strangely relevant.

Chain, how do you explain someone like me then, who doesn't earn money from it, but appears to have a gift?
I don't believe in it, but if someone persuades me to do a reading I will - haven't in 15 years. I'm unwilling mostly because I don't believe it, and partly because it takes a lot out of me.
If I was reading this from another poster, I honestly genuinely would be wondering whether they were on medication, so I get that, but what the fuck am I experiencing that I appear to be able to tell people what they're thinking?

DonkeyAtemyHomework · 09/02/2019 02:59

And why did I turn the rune stone over 10 out of 10 for pregnancy over a period of months, while I was pregnant!
How did my Dad know someone was pregnant?

Honestly, believe me, I don't believe this shit, but it's right too many times to dismiss.

FunkyKingston · 09/02/2019 03:01

Because you are subconsciously reading their body language, sizing up the situation and making a set of assumptions about someone. You are doing subconsciously what the professionals do consciously. Read a person based on what you already know about them, how the present etc.

MrsTerryPratcett · 09/02/2019 03:02

Bollocks, bollocks and shite.

However I can read tarot cards, learnt as a teenager. And what it taught me is that if you have counseling skills and tarot cards, what you have is a counselling session with glitter!

DonkeyAtemyHomework · 09/02/2019 03:09

It is pure bollocks lol. Probably why I don't do them anymore.

DonkeyAtemyHomework · 09/02/2019 03:10

still can't figure out why I kept turning the pregnancy stone up.

Hard to understand.

TheNumberfaker · 09/02/2019 03:43

Woo bollocks...
Went to a private spiritualist a few years ago. A friend and I recorded our private sessions - he said such similar things to both of us and we are very different. And loads of rubbish about third babies and moving to Australia! Complete tosh!

I don’t know but I’ve had my own set of Angel cards in the past. When dh and I were first dating I did a reading for him one night. He’s a total non-believer so it was like a challenge and a bit of fun.

I told him to ask a question of the angels and I would pick a card randomly and that was his answer. He wasn’t to tell me the question just hold the thought in his head.

The first card was archangel Michael, the protector. I read the card and told him to ask another question. Same card came up. Did it again, same thing. There was nothing about the card that would make it stand out from the deck, it wasn’t sticky or torn iyswim.

Anyway, we did it again and it was archangel Michael again and I said I don’t know what you’re asking but obviously it’s not working and you win kind of thing, it must be all crap etc, etc.

He had begun to tear up a bit and I asked what was wrong. He said he was asking if his grandfather was okay and if he was proud of him and then told me his name was Michael Smile

I believe so .. Grin

Oysterbabe · 09/02/2019 05:06

It's horseshit.

YellowBlankets · 09/02/2019 05:24

I went through a Tarot phase after someone gifted me a deck. The book I used to help learn was of the view (and it's a common view in some Tarot circles) that they aren't for telling the future but helping you understand the present. And I think that they can be useful for that.

For example, sometimes I'd do spreads for things I wasn't sure about but when it gives you an answer or interpretation I didn't like I then had a much clearer idea about what I actually wanted. It's like when you flip a coin between two options and realise you actually want heads as soon as you get tails.

I don't really do it anymore though - there's only so much you can ask about, and I don't think it was the best for my mental health.

you need to get Derek Acorah round

Mary loves Dick Grin

Dimsumlosesum · 09/02/2019 06:47

Had quite a few tarot readings over the years, it's all a crock of shit.

Yogagirl123 · 09/02/2019 06:59

I love anything like this runes, tarot, crystals.

I have also had readings with a mediums, that have been amazingly accurate.

DH is a complete skeptic, he visited a medium for the first time last September, certain it would be a load of rubbish. He was utterly amazed, and believes now.

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 09/02/2019 07:01

It's bullahit and bunkum. But, in think it's harmless if people see it as entertaining an fun. I'd view it as emotional sleight of hand.

The only time I get angry about it is when truly vulnerable and desperate people are taken advantage of by people using this stuff to pull money out of those who really need better support.

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 09/02/2019 07:01

Urgh. Sorry for the typos

DonkeyAtemyHomework · 09/02/2019 07:07

@YellowBlanket I agree it's not good for your mental health! I'm not sure why, as I fully believe it's utter gobshitery, but that said, it can drain you.
That said, I might get some rune stones again. I never read cards.
Jesus, I sound like I believe my own delusions! Will somebody give my head a wobble please?

NopeNi · 09/02/2019 07:11

It tells you a lot about the human brain and the things it can convince itself of or be aware of unconsciously - along with our desperate need for beliefs, other worlds, destinies, greater purposes and so on.

Apart from that, not much. It's all bullshit and random chance.

NopeNi · 09/02/2019 07:12

Alright Donkey - get a grip Grin

Seriously there are better things to waste your time on.

nombrecambio · 09/02/2019 07:20

Load of old bollocks.

Read Paranormality by Richard/Robert (?) Wiseman. Fabulous book.

c75kp0r · 09/02/2019 07:34

I have bags in my kitchen containing 1000s of crystals which I stir into cooking for a bit of added vim - though I'm trying to cut down, not good for the teeth or the blood pressure. I also make a point of adding crystals to my laundry, for their amazing water softening powers.

evilharpy · 09/02/2019 07:37

I used to collect tarot cards and still have lots of decks. I like them for the artwork which can be beautiful and fascinating. As far as reading them though, it's a load of shite. I don't believe in any of the other new agey stuff either like crystals or reiki or homeopathy.

FinallyHere · 09/02/2019 07:38

a ‘good’ card reader or psychic will feel really relevant because their skill is reading people and reflecting that back.

@SlackerMum1 this ^, exactly this

pasturesgreen · 09/02/2019 07:41

That it's a load of old crap aimed at gullible people.

HTH.

bellinisurge · 09/02/2019 08:16

Like the lottery and astrology, bit of silly fun as long as you don't spend too much money on it or invest faith in it.

Hoopaloop · 09/02/2019 08:22

It's all a load of bollocks.
