Watching 'Eurovision: You Decide' on the telly. And feeling rather sorry for the acts.

Why are we even bothering to enter this year? Every other European country will go out of their way to vote for everybody else but us, and we'll come last.

Get a grip. The UK has finished last only three times out of 61

Yes but they don't generally even get in top half these days, it's all political and it seems people just won't vote for the UK.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 09/02/2019 20:31

four Who are you talking to pet? Pro-Eurovision and bremoaner here!

Ifonlybatshadhats · 10/02/2019 08:26

Those talking about previous wins need to get a grip. It's like people wittering on about life pre being in the EU. Times have a changed. We'll not get anywhere near the left hand side of the board whilst we carry on portraying ourselves as obnoxious idiots. And that's not only a post 2016 thing, that's just a UK long-term thing. As I said up thread, another nail in the coffin.

JustLurkingAway · 10/02/2019 08:34

If anything, 2018 proved it is becoming a tad less political. Countries that usually do very well due to having lots of neighbours vote for them & normally having a good standard of songs, didn't even qualify for the final (think Russia, Romania, Greece). Yes, their songs weren't up to their usual standard last year, but surely if it was that political, those countries would've qualified regardless?

I'm happy that we chose Michael, the song might not be anything spectacular or original, but he'll do well with the juries and hopefully his personality will gain him some votes from the public.

Oysterbabe · 10/02/2019 08:36

It's just a bit of fun. Our song is properly shit though Grin

maddening · 10/02/2019 08:40

If Russia and Australia are in it I don't see why we shouldn't be.

TooOldForThisWhoCares · 10/02/2019 08:40

I don't think @vanillasauce comment got the kudos it deserved. Made me laugh.

JustLurkingAway · 10/02/2019 08:42

To be fair, we really don't put the effort we could/should put in, like Australia had a tv show yesterday selecting their entry, they had quite a few famous Australian singers, because people actually want to represent them, British artists don't want to even think about representing usGrin

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 10/02/2019 08:47

mitz are you Adele?

ScreamingValenta · 10/02/2019 08:50

I think the UK's automatic entry does us no favours. Most of the other countries have to go through a semi-final - so their songs will be more familiar to the audiences and panel, and more likely to be remembered when it comes to voting.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 10/02/2019 11:14

Ooh there are some bad 'uns among the ones picked so far, mind.
Finland are being represented by Darude, song still to be arranged.
That's a blast from the past, he's nearly my age. We should have gone with Fatboy Slim. Wink

And this year? When we couldn't be more unpopular with the rest of Europe if we tried? I can't see us winning hands down, can you?

It's a complete waste of tv licence fee payers' money.

Slinky🤣🤣🤣I was thinking exactly that.

BartholinsSister · 12/02/2019 15:03

We don't need to enter their festival of mediocrity, as we have a proper music industry instead.

badlydrawnperson · 12/02/2019 15:07

Eurovision - shite songs in a package of shite - who really cares?

It can be a laugh to watch but who seriously cares who wins?

ScreamingValenta · 12/02/2019 17:43

And this year?

We might get a few sympathy votes Sad.
