DH had been off work all week with a chest infection. Omg the mess, so much extra cleaning. I'm amazed how one person can create so much work. We also have the noises he makes to remind us of his suffering, every 5 minutes. 😫

What's your question exactly? I presume you are thinking that DH isn't actually ill or suffering in any way? How much mess and extra cleaning is he actually producing and can it be remedied by just putting a waste paper bin by him?

AngelaStorm73 · 08/02/2019 16:12

He doesn't have man flu he has a chest infection Confused

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 08/02/2019 16:15

Select a nice fluffy pillow and offer to put him out of his misery.

What a loving relationship you have.

Pot kettle with that user name!!

I use to think manflu was made up but then I caught a cold recently from my husband except mine was much worse than his and it took me 3 times longer to get clear of.

So I can only conclude I'm the first woman to get manflu. Grin

lighthearted fun police

I see what you mean but imagine a place called "Mansnet" where men bitch about their DWs - "Oh bloody hell, she's on the blob again, I can't be doing with her asking me to fill up the hot water bottle and get her painkillers. All women get it, why can't she just get on with things? And the chocolate bar wrappers, what a fucking mess".

Sexism goes both ways.

StreetwiseHercules · 08/02/2019 16:25

Some women are really cold and odd about men being ill. Strangely enough when they themselves are ill it’s a different story and expectations are very different.

I thought that too! OP's having a light hearted moan - her DH has a bit of bug and is by the sounds of it making a big deal of it.

Sexism goes both ways.

LOL - no it doesn't - sexism is about power, men have it, and for centuries have worked to make sure women don't.

Being a bit mean about a man who is ill is not sexism.

Interesting that it is defined as both at individual and institutional levels.

Generally those women that refer to institutional sexism only, are in fact sexist at an individual level.

I am when it comes to my dh simply because he will moan that he is getting ill then it’s actually that he’s a bit hungry or hasn’t had enough water. He isnafter sympathy.

While that in itself is fair enough, it gets a bit wearing when he is basically after me to run around and see to his needs. So then when he’s actually ill I won’t believe him because of all the false starts.

Angrybird123 · 08/02/2019 16:42

I think the 'manflu' thing is more a lighthearted dig at the idea that when women, especially those at home with kids have a similar illness they are still expected to do their 'job' of parenting a small child and running the house but when a man has it everything stops. I am a single parent and have been really sodding ill this week but have still had to get up, get my kids to school and get to work. Can't take time off because I did that last week when they were ill. Honestly, hand on heart, how many men do you think have to do that?

Iggly · 08/02/2019 16:45

Exactly @Angrybird123

I’m ill today, dh is at home. Has he picked the kids up from school, has he thought to put their dinner on? Tidied their rooms?

No. Not a fucking jot. But when he’s ill I just crack on! And also when I’m ill 🤔

TheValeyard · 08/02/2019 16:54

Just from my own work and friends, quite a lot, based on the last few weeks.

Sexism is prejudice or discrimination based on a person's sex or gender. What you are referring to is called patriarchy.
