Been diagnosed with type-2 diabetes.

Nurse said to avoid toast, sandwiches & pasta but the Diabetes UK website seems to say these are ok.

What do you eat?

Avoid refined sugar so cut down drastically on sweets, biscuits, cakes, desserts, processed/packaged foods. Switch from white bread, rice, pasta to wholemeal/whole grain. Low sugar options are better than low fat options.

Look up the glycaemic index and choose low glycaemic index foods. Increase your exercise levels. Cut down or eliminate alcohol/smoking. Lose weight if overweight.

I've reversed type 2 diabetes by following a low carb diet. I tend to have porridge with apple in for breakfast or homemade muesli. Lunch, omelette or homemade soup. If I have sandwiches then just one slice of bread, but I prefer to use lettuce leaves as wraps. Then maybe some Greek yoghurt or a pear. Sometimes I have hummus with carrot and celery sticks.

Dinner can be pork steak or chicken with salad with maybe a couple of new potatoes. Or stew with loads of vegetables. I do have curry or chill but I weigh out 80g of cooked brown rice, the same if I have wholemeal pasta.

I have occasional puddings of strawberries and cream or a crumble where the topping is made from porridge oats. Or Greek yoghurt with some berries.

Best thing I did was ditch all the low fat products which are loaded with sugar.

Get the Blood Sugar Diet book/recipe book. Low carb, high protein, some fat, lots of veg, limited fruit.

Blood Sugar Diet or follow low GI. South Beach Diet has great cookbooks for keeping sugar low.
