To send my kid in the wrong shoes

My 2 year old has to wear a uniform at nursery and they’re very strict about It anyway she’s a size 7 1/2 in shoes and they HAVE to wear black plimsolls ,I can’t get hold of 7.5 the 7 is too small and the 8 makes her trip up ,anyway until I can get some plimsolls I’ve been sending her in black Chelsea boots and you’d think I was sending her in lime green air max I’ve explained 3 times that I can’t find them in her size and that she trips over in the ones she has I’m going shopping Saturday to get some ,they sent me a damn text out too saying I need to get some. I asked why it’s so important as they have trainers too so it’s not for p.e and they said it helps teach them to put on their own shoes ,I said my little girl can already put her shoes on and they’re still so militant why don’t they understand I’m working on it and that she’s 2! Am I being unreasonable I just don’t understand why the rest of the school can wear any black shoes but my daughters nursery class can’t even if they are capable of putting them on themselves

They also sent me a letter out about the fact that my daughter poo’s twice a day at nursery and it’s concerning. Is it? She does 9-3

Wtf . I'd change nursery. It sounds like a fucking military camp.

Greensleeves · 07/02/2019 21:41

My kid would be out of there quicker than Concorde.

You'll have years of this crap. No need to put up with it this early!

LovingLola · 07/02/2019 21:42

It sounds awful

AntiHop · 07/02/2019 21:45

Wtaf? They wrote to you because she does a poo twice a day? I wouldn't want my 2 year old at that nursery.

Fiona0x · 07/02/2019 21:46

Lol how weird. my 2 year old poos between 2-3 times a day depending on his veggie intake the day before. They are bat shit.

SaucyJack · 07/02/2019 21:48

The poo thing is weird, but Clark’s do half-sizes so there’s no real reason not to stick to the uniform.

settmenu · 07/02/2019 21:55

I'd be looking for a new nursery. Does your DD actually enjoy it. Sounds no fun at all.

pictish · 07/02/2019 21:57

Good grief...they sound...officious.

EhlanaOfElenia · 07/02/2019 21:59

Plimsoles are horrible shoes anyway. They offer no support for feet.

CleverWittyUsername · 07/02/2019 22:01

Uniform for 2yo sounds an awful idea. Are there other childcare providers near you?

dontticklethetoad · 07/02/2019 22:03

SaucyJack the op isn't going against the uniform rules, just hasn't been able to find a pair in a half size in stock anywhere.

GreenEggsHamandChips · 07/02/2019 22:04

Ive found a school's attitude to shoes a really good basis for picking a school.

Id worry a lot about a nursery that actively insisted on the kids wearing shoes that are poor. No just no.

dawn96 · 07/02/2019 22:15

There’s literally no other nurseries close to me and I don’t drive ,She absolutely loves it and it’s been so good for her ,She was extremely clingy before ,I mean she wouldn’t even let me leave the room but she’s never been upset for me to leave her their like the other kids ,There’s two main teachers one for the 2 year olds (my daughters teacher who is so lovely ) and the one who deals with the 3 year olds, she’s the one with the issue tbh she’s very old school the other mums were saying she was at a private school before, makes me wonder why she’s now at a public school in a deprived area though. I’d understand if I was just ignoring uniform policy but I’m not I’m in the process of sorting it ,I do think at 2 it shouldn’t be so strict anyway

They said it might be worth a trip to the doctors 🤣 I did find it very funny but tried to be serious I said she just eats fruit lol

It’s so hard getting her uniform because the smallest sizes are few and far between and it’s winter anyway , I went to Matalan,Tesco and Asda to get it all in and couldn’t get a jumper so had to get it online

If you are going to keep her at the nursery, then look at Clark’s and StartRite plimsolls.,Both come in half sizes, but one of them comes up smaller anyway (think it’s StartRite). You can also use an insole to adjust the fit.

I used to hace big problems getting black plimsolls for DS, who has very narrow feet. There is a brand called Dek, who sell on Amazon and via sine independent shoe shops that are very narrow.9

AwakeAfterMidnight · 08/02/2019 05:24

We used to get half sizes from Clarkes. What I don’t understand is why you thought a pair of Chelsea Boots would be a good substitute for plimsoles - surely black trainers would be closer?

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 08/02/2019 05:58

What I don’t understand is why you thought a pair of Chelsea Boots would be a good substitute for plimsoles - surely black trainers would be closer?

Presumably because chelsea boots are also slip ons so daughter can get them on and off herself without any adult assistance which is what the nursary seem to be driving at where as trainers would require an adult to do up the laces/velcro. Yes in terms of tjeir sporty protential trainers would be closer. But in terms of what tue nursery want, child being able to remove and replace own shoes chelsea boots are a good subsitute.

It would concern me that they think plimpsoles are a good thing for 2 and three year olds to be in all day. Like someones said they offer no support.

Its majorly concerning that they think pooing twice is worthy of a 2 year old going to the doctor, if other children aren't, i suspect holding on to their poop and that can lead to consipation and other medical issues.

Is there any public transport you could yet to another nuslrsary? This one sounds quite concerning sorry

MaverickSnoopy · 08/02/2019 06:32

It might be prudent to ask them if they know anything about children's feet development given that you've told them that you have thus far been unable to find something in the correct size. You have said that you will keep trying but I would be asking them if they are really suggesting that given you can't find the right size at the moment, are they really suggesting that she wear something that will hinder her foot development and also potentially be a tripping hazard....but then I'm arsey like that when people are being unreasonable.

Seriously though, have a Google about children's feet development. It's actually better for them when they're little (even age 3) to not have anything at all on their feet. However, that's not an option here but the least they can do is understand that little feet need properly fitted shoes.

As for the nappy question. "Yes it is normal for her". The end.

Any more absurd behaviour on their part and I'd be hunting for alternative childcare. Childminder perhaps?

dawn96 · 10/02/2019 07:57

@awakeaftermidnight simply because I don’t have black trainers in my house only black boots ,They do have trainers too in their P.E bag for when they do running around and things
