Posting here for traffic,
Does anyone have husband/ male partner/ brother etc who has to wear steel toecap boots/ trainers for work who’s feet are not hurting.
My husband has just taken a job where he is on his feet all day and his feet are agony.
If anyone knows of any comfortable steel toecap footwear please can you tell me the brand name.
I will give you cake 😬
Sorry this is not exciting

Dont know about boots but serious thick walking socks might help

Bombardier25966 · 07/02/2019 18:11

In what way are they agony?

Partner has ones from Amazon, less than £30 and no problems.

Birdsgottafly · 07/02/2019 18:13

My ex used to wear hiking type thick socks.

If they are the heavy type of boots, they take time to get used to.

I had to wear safety boots in my previous job. They killed my feet and I ended up with a corn on my big toe

I got some fairly lightweight ones from Screwfix or Toolstation (they’re right next door to each other and I can’t remember which one I went in) and some gel insoles.

I celebrated the day I left that job and could chuck those fuckers in the bin

I wear them all the time. I'm so used to them, I wear them as my everyday general footwear, and I've not found a comfort issue even walking 10+ miles. Mine are Cofra "Ipswich" boots, supplied by work.

Boots do need a bit of breaking in sometimes, and some I've found really need an insole to be comfortable - the ones I found best were a "sports" one, where it was like a concentric ribbed pattern to the underside of it.

If his problem is more rubbing than pressure on his feet, double-socking may help a bit.

Lastly, if he's working in a factory and stood at a machine for long periods, see if the health and safety people can get some anti fatigue matting for where he stands, it helps quite a bit.

DH has always worn steel toe-cap boots, some have been better than others but really a matter of wearing them in and getting used to the weight. Thick socks are a good idea - Primark do work socks that are pretty good, or try those really thick foot-warmer types. At the moment he's got a pair of Doc Marten workboots and seems fairly happy with them

Cameron2012 · 07/02/2019 19:20

He says his feet ache and feel crampy, the boots are big enough and are worn in ( he had to wear them when he was driving in his previous job.).
The problem seems to be now he is on his feet all day

Dr Marten’s steel toe caps

abstardust · 07/02/2019 19:35

V12s, these are the only steel toe caps my DP can wear. Can get on amazon or good workwear suppliers, bit more expensive but worth it.

mrcharlie · 07/02/2019 20:54

The comfiest boots I ever wore in my life were Doc Martens Chukka
OMG was like putting slippers on...straight out of the box!! They were proper safety boots with steel toe caps. Absolute heaven!

They were a gift to me from my employer at the time, when I wore them out and discovered their actual price I had to go back to cheapies. I actually went hunting for them a few weeks ago..no luck, but I'm certain they'll still be around.

hmwhatsmynameagain · 07/02/2019 21:03

Rockfall boots have good reviews with the people I work with

toriatoriatoria · 07/02/2019 21:41

Have a look at Alt-Bergs, mine are so comfy. I had a few cheaper pairs before getting them... The cheap ones never lasted and weren't as comfortable.

happytick · 07/02/2019 21:42

I spent SOOOO many years hearing my husband and his mates bitching about how awful their safety boots were, I thought they'd be terrible. Long story short, I bought a pair of Dewalt Bolster. The 2 main culprits have these. They are FINE!! I wear them all the time in winter, I'll wear them over Uggs, Sketchers trainers etc if it's dry. They're way more comfortable than wellies in the wet. I have no idea how men would cope in heels or horrific little ballet shoes that are all hard and rub at the back!
Anyway, to be helpful- get him the soft gel insoles or sheepskin ones from Poundstretcher/ B&M or wherever. Get a thick pair of thermal socks, try on a size up when buying, if they're slightly tight they'll be worse than slightly tight trainers etc. I even got a pair of Karimore (sp?) safety boots since I loved my Dewalts so much and they were equally comfortable. I lost one after it fell out of the boot of the car when we were changing muddy boots and getting kids in etc and I was gutted.
Safety boots in a hot summer is another thing, they're not good then.

happytick · 07/02/2019 21:48

If he wore them previously and they weren't too bad and was driving then and is now standing the problem is most likely being on his feet all day, is there anything he can do about that? Gel insoles in that case. Does he have to wear safety boots? My dh does but 'doesn't'- i.e should wear them but if he doesn't and has an accident which is v unlikely in his line of work it's on him.

SavoyCabbage · 07/02/2019 21:54

My dh works in an office but has to have steel toe cap boots when he's visiting various sites and he bloody loves it as he says they are the most comfortable boots ever. He uses any excuse to get them on now.
