AIBU that you shouldn't interview people who dont have the right experience for the job?

I was just rejected from a job post-interview on the grounds that I didn't have the right experience for it. My CV was very clear about the experience I had. I questioned the recruiter as to why I was invited to interview if I didn't have the right experience for the position and they told me that my CV showed that I "had relevant experience they could build on" so that's why I was invited to interview, but that I "didn't express this at interview". I probably spent about 50 per cent of the interview talking about the specific details of my current job and discussing with the interviewer ways in which it was similar and had transferable skills, to which the interviewer even said the phrase "it's a very similar process" and "that's easy to train you on though" about one part of the job role that I didn't have prior experience in. I am very confused, but mainly just annoyed that I feel they wasted loads of my time (it was quite a long process for a low paid job!). AIBU that if I didn't have the right experience, they shouldn't have wasted my time interviewing me?

Should you apply for jobs if you don't have the right experience?!!
Seriously, it's happened to me too, sometimes you have to take a chance and apply for jobs that you are not quite ready for, you shouldn't be surprised you didn't get it if you know you didn't have the experience.

It's frustrating.

Especially when they don't provide any constructive feedback.

"There was more qualified candicate"

"You were really good but...the other candidate had a bit more experience"

"We really liked you but..."

"We had an internal candidate with more in depth knowledge of our company"

None of this is actually helpful in improving an application.

As far as my feedback goes you'd think I was a perfect candidate every time, just pipped to the post. Clearly though I must have something to work on but I'm never actually told!

They already had an internal candidate lined up for the job and you were just there to make up the numbers Sad

I didn't really 'apply' in the traditional sense - an ex-colleague of mine moved there some time ago and she told me they had jobs going, and we did the same job before she moved there (although I have been doing it for longer!). She passed my CV on to the recruiter at the company, who contacted and invited me to the recruitment morning. It's particularly galling that they recruited a whole bunch of people - I just wasn't one of them! So not the case that it was being kept for someone internally.

And as I said, I am more qualified than the ex-colleague who now does that job and got it some time ago when she had even less experience Confused.
