I'm currently 27 weeks pregnant and have been off since Tuesday with SPD. I was diagnosed with this last Friday and am awaiting referral for physio and taking codeine in the meantime.

Some days I have good days in terms of the pain and other days the pain is awful, like it has been this week. On top of this, it seems my sickness has also returned Sad

Anyway, in my work contract it does say that I should get paid normal pay before SSP starts, at their discretion, if I comply with their reporting requirements etc (which I have done).

Early in my pregnancy I was off with a couple hospital stays and then suffered with "morning" sickness (that actually lasted all day)

I just feel this is really unfair as I can't help being pregnant

To be fair, you sort of can.

I think you need to find a way that you are going to be able to work. IME physio won't help you much and if it does it certainly won't be immediate. You have 3 months until you are due so will need to speak to your employer to find a way to ensure you are able to work comfortably otherwise you are going to miss out on a lot of pay. I had to do a long commute, lots of walking and worked at a desk throughout my pregnancy. My SPD started very early and was very severe but it was still possible for me to work.

So do you think people with non-pregnancy related conditions do/would get more sick pay than you or not?

champagneplanet · 07/02/2019 09:40

How long have you been there? Do you have holidays to take? If it's genuine sickness we sometimes allow people to use holidays instead of having to take it unpaid, depends on the company obviously.

Youknowmedontyou · 07/02/2019 10:03

So direct question, how long have you worked there? How many days sickness have you had and how many of those have been paid.

Pregnancy is a red herring, I'd be furious if I was denied sick pay and a pregnant woman given it? Just how would that be fair?

You can't help having pregnancy related illness, well I can't help having flu!
