To be so scared even 1 hour later?!

Went to see the filming of Britain's got talent tonight at the Lowry and drove home via McDonalds.. the drive thru was closed but the shop was open, DH was on the phone so I went into the store to get dinner.

Got dinner and got back to the car and there's a random man hanging around the car park talking to people in another car. I was chatting to DH (pissing around with my phone to put Harry Potter back on). I stalled the car and as I did so DH shouts GO GO GO JUST FUCKING DRIVE!! So obviously I turn round and the man who was chatting to the other car is standing about 6 inches from my window with a screw driver in his hand.

I screamed and drove off then he ran down the road behind the car. We're home now and I keep jumping and any movement on my right hand side is freaking me out. I can literally see him next to me.

I know I'm safe now but would the police be interested? And how the fuck do I chill out?!

You could report it to 101 in the morning, McD's will have decent CCTV. There's no good reason for someone to be hanging around at night with a screwdriver, going equipped to steal is most likely I'd imagine.

HJE17 · 07/02/2019 01:49

Eek!!! Horrifying! Don’t be too hard on yourself. I’d definitely still be jittery for a few hours after something like that. Adrenaline can hang around in your system for a while... as can that sort of image! I agree with calling a non-emergency police line. It’s probably the right thing to do, and no doubt you’ll feel better after taking some kind of action. Other than that: a hot cup of tea, and maybe some time buried in a good book to turn your mind to other things...

BusySnipingOnCallOfDuty · 07/02/2019 01:51

You report it NOW, not in the morning.

I dont know what to suggest to help calm you, but youre safe now. Im so sorry you experienced that, how awful.

NewYoiker · 07/02/2019 01:53

After I posted this I decided to ring 101 and they said I'd done the right thing telling them, it was so fucking terrifying.

Ugh! It was good night up til then! I'm not sleeping tonight.

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 07/02/2019 01:53

I also suggest you should report this ASAP, this could happen to someone else tonight and you could read about it on the news tomorrow. I don’t blame you for being upset, it was a scary thing. Reporting it may make you feel better for doing something though

CuriousMama · 07/02/2019 01:54

Yes I'd report asap

ExFury · 07/02/2019 01:54

Report it now not in the morning. The staff are coming and going from the place with a man with a screwdriver outside. Not to mention other customers if it’s still open.

CuriousMama · 07/02/2019 01:54

Sorry xpost glad you reported it.

ExFury · 07/02/2019 01:54

Be kind to yourself OP, that’s a horrible shock to get

redbirdblackbird · 07/02/2019 01:54

Mc d’s in Stretford?!
That is awful, so scary. Hope you’re ok xx

NewYoiker · 07/02/2019 01:56

@redbirdblackbird no it was Stockport by the hat museum, stupid really we should have just had toast at home but I was hungry and I wanted to get McDs Sad

OP posts:
southernetter · 07/02/2019 01:56

Definitely report it now. He could still be out there and someone else might not be so lucky. Do you think you can give the police a good description of the man OP? With a bit of luck they might catch him. How horrible I’m not surprised you are shaken up.

southernetter · 07/02/2019 01:58

Sorry I’ve just seen you’ve reported it now. I hope you are ok.

Smotheroffive · 07/02/2019 02:01

I am so sorry about your distress

Please get a trigger warning put on your thread title. Its horrific what you experienced and what you've written!!!

redbirdblackbird · 07/02/2019 02:04

It’s not stupid at all, dont feel like that. Hopefully the police will recognise him from the cctv

Donmesswime · 07/02/2019 02:06

So, what are the police going to do?

NewYoiker · 07/02/2019 02:07

@Smotheroffive sorry I've reported it

OP posts:
NewYoiker · 07/02/2019 02:11

@Donmesswime the 101 operator said it was being passed to local officers- but having said that they're sending local police to me to take a statement in the morning. (Manchester police just rang me back)

I feel so on edge I'm going to make a cup of tea.

sorry you had to go through this.must have been horrifying.remember its over now.your safe.dont associate anything with it just let the feeling of tonight come and go.your body is in fight or flight and fearful right now.let it come down as it will.
you are safe now.
well done for calling now.police(when they can with funing of course) are trying to take this stuff seriously with how prevalent its been.
maybe go back to the mcds in the daytime and see that its safe and ok.and of course get a lovely happy meal or summink :D

SuchAToDo · 07/02/2019 03:38

Op it's good you have reported it to the police, if it was me I'd Google that McDonald's to get their phone number , so I could call the staff and let them.know to be on their guard (incase he comes into the McDonald's and tries to rob them, or incase he's still hanging around outside because the customers and staff have to use the carpark too)...

Op i know you feel scared, anybody would, that is normal in a situation like that, but you should feel so proud of yourself too because you got yourself out of there and to safety too...

2birds1stone · 07/02/2019 03:57

Christ I am awake from a bad dream and read this. Made me feel all funny and terrified on your behalf.

Reminds me of when I was younger (much) I would go out driving round the city. Stopped in a car park with a mate to eat food and play music. Next thing I know someone had driven their car so it's nose was on my passenger door and was nudging my car! Horrible. Lucky I was parked in a position with the engine running to drive away.

Hope you managed to get some sleep op

MaverickSnoopy · 07/02/2019 04:20

You poor thing. I hope you're asleep now.

I agree to going back if you can but could understand if you couldn't. Do speak to the manager to tell them what happened so they can be aware and protect their staff. What an awful thing to happen.

Fancyacuppaluv · 07/02/2019 05:33

That’s like the opening of a horror film... absolutely not unreasonable, I’d be really scared too.
Glad you’re home and safe OP

AhhDamnIt · 07/02/2019 05:55

stupid really we should have just had toast at home but I was hungry and I wanted to get McDs

Don't feel stupid. What you did is a completely normal thing that 100s of people do every day. It's very unusual to experience what you did.

It was NOT because you made an error in judgement. Take care Flowers x

Andromeida59 · 07/02/2019 09:33

Hi OP, I hope you've managed to get some sleep. You did the right thing in reporting it. Do not feel bad about going to McDonald's. You have every right to go somewhere without being potentially threatened with a screwdriver.
