to be 100% certain that I am right and DD is wrong about being "on a sesh"?

She (17) is equally certain that the phrase for going on the piss is "We are at a sesh".

Apparently its because I am old (45!) and it has changed, I think its because she has misheard/misunderstood.

She wont accept what you say because "They are all old too!" but I just want some validation for myself :o

PS before anyone says it, she is almost 18, yes she does drink when at her friends parties and I am ok with that.

Your daughter is so wrong, because she’s is young and not experienced at seshing obviously! Oldies like us have been on the sesh more times than she’s had Nando’s 😃

LisaSimpsonsbff · 07/02/2019 07:11

To me 'on a sesh' and 'on the lash' are different types of drinking - 'on a sesh' means a long time drinking but not necessarily getting really drunk (so a session ale is quite a weak one, so you can have loads of them over an afternoon without getting obliterated) but 'on the lash' means getting drunk. You would go on a sesh during the day, but going on the lash is exclusively a night-time activity. However, you go 'on' not 'at' both!

RavenWings · 07/02/2019 07:14

It's having a sesh/at a sesh or on the lash ime. I agree with her, I'm nearer to her age and it's definitely changed Grin

chaoscategorised · 07/02/2019 07:16

Definitely 'on THE sesh' for me. You could refer to someone 'having A sesh' but it would be more abstract, not like saying they were having a party - more like, he is currently engaged in the spiritual activity of getting fucked up over an extended period of time i.e. at least a weekend.

"Have you seen Jordan?"
"Nah he's having a sesh at the moment so we're leaving him to it"

Also YY to people who've said that the sesh involves drugs - the sesh goes hand in hand with MDMA and ket, so if you heard anyone below 30 referring to the sesh I'd reckon they were getting on it!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 07/02/2019 07:17

On a sesh round these parts .... I’ve heard DD refer to her friend as having a “sesh coat” Hmm

BigSandyBalls2015 · 07/02/2019 07:18

Oh maybe the coat refers to drugs then! I just thought it was the coat her friend liked to wear to get hammered!

CostanzaG · 07/02/2019 07:20

Isn't it having a sesh? We'd say on the piss, on the lash or having a sesh.

Never heard at a sesh or on the sesh.

RockyFlintstone · 07/02/2019 07:22

A sesh is a drugs party.

Not as I understand it.

It's 'on the sesh' to me.

I agree though that a sesh is often more of a sustained drinking session.

user1495884620 · 07/02/2019 07:24

Neither. You have a sesh, or you go out for a sesh.

ForgivenessIsDivine · 07/02/2019 07:25

There is an amusing 'Outnumbered' episode where Sue (the mum) tells the day that the phrase is not "chilled out', it is "chilled" because her son Jake had told her so. At the end of the episode Jane corrects her saying 'It's not 'chilled', it's 'chill''.

We have to face the fact that all groups come up with their own slang and that everything that went before is 'sad' and 'lame'.

chaoscategorised · 07/02/2019 07:27

Your sesh coat is when you've been on the sesh long enough not to feel cold! Although I suppose you could also have a special coat for the sesh...

Crockof · 07/02/2019 07:30

A sesh means (meant maybe) a shagathon to me

Areyouongluedear · 07/02/2019 07:36

As far as I’ve always heard it’s neither...
having a sesh/gonna have a sesh/ had a bit of a sesh
Are all used to mean a long prolonged drink and drugs binge. Like pub followed by club followed by afterparty followed by mates house and maybe pub again.
I’ve always assumed it’s short for session for that reason

LipstickTaserrr · 07/02/2019 07:46

Funny that I just saw this! Looks like we are all old and no longer down with the kids Grin

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 07/02/2019 08:02

55 here
Go(ing) FOR A sesh
Be ON A sesh
Was ON THE sesh (last night)

Chance would be a fine thing. I have no social life....

Buddytheelf85 · 07/02/2019 08:06

‘At a sesh’ sounds like some sort of sex party. It’s ‘on a sesh’ or ‘having a sesh’.

scottishdaisy · 07/02/2019 08:06

Oh I have no idea but any time my son and I have an argument ... that's ALWAYS his argument - It might have been like that BEFORE but young people NOW say/do/think the way he does. Grrrr.

BelindasRedPlasticHandcuffs · 07/02/2019 09:30

Definitely on a sesh!

I'm 27 and have friends still at uni 21-24 and they also say on...

Have checked with my 16 y/o cousin for the youth vote and the friends of hers that drink/watch tv about drinking also say 'on' ignoring the fact that I'm horrified that they understand the concept of a sesh at 16...

TheSerenDipitY · 07/02/2019 09:35

ive never heard that related to drinking, having a sesh or session when i was younger was more to do with having a joint or a pipe... weird, the youth of today like to think they invented our old phrases, my teenagers is always telling me i have no idea of what shes talking about and i have to remind her that the slang shes using was around long before me and long before her
