Kerry Katona

She is currently advertising some diet injections, using an old picture of her as the 'result'. It's also the same picture she used for her Herbalife 'result'. It's also a picture that was taken after her cosmetic surgery!

AIBU to not be sure if she is being really stupid, because people who follow her will work this out, or if she really clever, because people are buying into her pish anyway?

I just looked at her SM to check and she does hashtag as ad [vertisment] anyway.

You have to declare when you are being paid to promote something otherwise your content can be removed but it's still not covered by exactly the same rules as, say, broadcast ads.

Fraying · 07/02/2019 13:02

The petition is exactly about false advertising on social media but you're ignoring it and pretending your concern about your children rests on 'discussing' Kerry Katona.
Don't worry I'm sure the Daily Mail will be along shortly to write an article about MNers attacking Kerry as a bad influence . . . whilst carefully avoiding all comments on the wider issue, the media complicity, the A-list celebs, the debate around social media company's complicity and the campaign that is actually trying to make a difference.

Bryjam · 07/02/2019 13:03

But my post wasn't about the rules that cover these things. It was about these people promoting/advertising false shit.

The question was whether Kerry was being clever getting away or not so clever because she didn't think about it.

I have plenty of criticism and zero sympathy for anyone, single mum with MH problems or not, who promotes unhealthy eating/weightloss/body standards to make money. Have reported her bullshit advert to the ASA, because I’m sick of this insidious industry and the people who perpetuate it.

I'm not ignoring the petition, I signed it yesterday.

I didn't post this as concern about my children either, but it came up that the targets are 'our' daughters. Not mine personally, it the broader spectrum.

I was only discussing this one particular subject btw, and not 'Kerry Katona' altogether. In fact I have been very clear not to get in to any discussion about her life/children/relationships as I merely wanted to discuss the one thing I started the thread about.

Mumsnet is like arguing with a toddler sometime. You have to spend so much time scalping things you didn't even say.

Honestly. I don't know where, from my OP, half of this even came from.

Read the post. Respond to question. Don't make up shot and have a go at me personally for things I wasn't even mentioning.

I feel for Kerry Katina who is clearly a very troubled person and tries to deal with her pain by having one relationship after another with completely unsuitable men. I feel more for her kids though. They've had to live through the bipolar disorder, the string of boyfriends, the DV, the tv meltdowns. They must have a whole host of issues

RockyFlintstone · 07/02/2019 15:33

Hashtagging or not hashtagging #ad and using false images to advertise a product are two entirely different issues, both prevelant in social media at the moment.

Springwalk · 07/02/2019 15:37

Kerry has had a really difficult childhood, has huge debts and her children to think of, she is doing what any mother would do in her situation, she is making the best of her set of cards in life. We can pick holes in her photos or we can support her efforts to stay sober and make some money. I know which one I would rather choose.

Bryjam · 07/02/2019 16:14

I know. In fact I only mentioned the hashtag because I got pulled up on the use of the word advertising over promoting. It amounts to the same think in the end. Saying X product made Y body when it didn't.

The point is we aren't toddlers. We don't need to stick to the narrow parameters of responses you deem appropriate or on topic.

Bryjam · 07/02/2019 16:23

fraying

Indeed. But there is not much point having a go at me for wanting to 'discuss' Kerry Katona, when in fact the post was about the SM picture, not her personal life.

OP posts:
Bryjam · 07/02/2019 16:26

spring

As per numerous previous posts, none of this was about Kerry Katona, her personal life or her situation financially.

It was about blatant lying about diet/weight loss products.

I'm not sure private life makes any difference in the situation. It could be anyone with any background, it would still be wrong and I would still ask the same question.

OP posts:
Bryjam · 07/02/2019 16:33

We can pick holes in her photos

Just to further clarify, I have absolutely not done this.

I posted the facts about the use of the same photo with claims about different products being the reason for the result. At no point in time did I give an opinion on the photos. I did not pick holes in anything.

She's still alive? Thought she died of a coke overdose

At4oclockthenormalworld · 07/02/2019 16:50

Fraying going to look into that petition thanks.

Detail alert...I actually am developing a bit of a crush on Jameela Jamil as watching her in The Good Place at mo. She is startlingly beautiful

BejamNostalgia · 07/02/2019 16:58

You mean she's keeps making money and tries to work herself out of bankruptcy? Using her past drug issues is a cheap shot, it's been very much to do with being abused as a child and her MH issues

Brian and Kerry's relationship and maintenance arrangements have nothing to do with my post.

They are relevant. Kerry is at the arse end of a career in a dying industry. It’s not 2004. Nobody is mainling heat or OK! mag anymore to see who’s dating who and who has got cellulite.

She’s in the gobsmacking situation where McFadden is actually the best of a bad bunch when it comes to the fathers of her children. He hasn’t paid towards them but the other two have huge drug issues, mental health issues and serious criminal convictions.

There’s a phrase ‘beggars can’t be choosers’ which very much applies to Kerry in this situation. She’s got a dwindling profile, no skills, few sources of income and no support from the father’s.

If you want to criticise someone, criticise the industry for their tactics, don’t criticise a woman who’s trying to do the best for her kids in a shitty situation.

Her eldest daughter is a very high achiever and well on her way to becoming a doctor, so whatever it is she’s doing that we don’t see, she’s obviously getting something right.

Bryjam · 07/02/2019 17:03

If you want to criticise someone,

I wasn't criticising Kerry though. I was asking a very simple 'is she clever or not clever' by using that photo. It's very wrong to do such a thing, regardless of who you are and what your circumstances are.

The post was not to discuss why she is doing it. That's not relevant.

I have not said a bad word about Kerry and I don't intend to.

My problem is with WHAT she is doing not WHO she is.

BlancheM · 07/02/2019 17:04

All this bollocks should be illegal. They're all at it.

stanski · 07/02/2019 18:17

No interest in Kerry Katona but for what it's worth Saxenda (the slimming injection) does work even though temporarily. My beautician suggested it. Lost 9 KG (1.4 stone) in two months. When I reached the max dose it stopped working for me.

familiarsagrada · 07/02/2019 18:27

Did your beautician tell you how bloody dangerous it is as well? I hope so.
