Shove a cloth, a tea towel or similar in the end. I used to practice mine and neighbours three streets away could hear me!

There are various mutes you can buy. We bought one when my son started playing, mostly for the benefit of our neighbours! It wasn't great to be honest but I believe some are better than others.

I looked online for mutes, but only found ones that modify the tone rather than muffle it.

I teach saxophone. I'm sorry there isn't no, but as a beginner the sound is very loud and hard to control. As he gets better he will find it easier to play softly. For my students who live in flats I suggest to them that they practise before school or during break times to avoid problems with noise. Sorry I guess that's not the news you wanted Blush

Gear4music have a set of little sponges to put in various bits of the sax. We had similar. They didn't make a huge difference but I don't think we could hear him from quite so far down the road...

Yes we encouraged practice at school. Easier at secondary school where they tend to have music rooms.

I used to practice playing both alto and tenor in the bathroom, actually stood in the shower cubicle!! the tiled wall gave unbelievable resonance. I'm actually grinning now thinking back - lol
