To ask if you would leave a stranger you met over the internet alone in your house?

So would you? Would you allow a stranger you know only from over the internet to come to your house and would you then leave them alone there?

Yes I would. I trust my own judgement. The internet is no different than anywhere else. You meet someone you dont know at first then over time you build up a picture of them and decide whether they are trustworthy or not. Theres loads of contexts in which i would and also lots in which i wouldn't trust someone i met over the internet. But i would certainly not just mistrust someone purely because it was on the internet that I met them

in this context yes. I would meet the babysitter beforehand or ask for recommendation but otherwise yes. I've done it before in an emergency. That's the whole point of a babysitter: to leave them alone in your house with your kid!

I would never leave my children alone with someone I found off the internet, would only use a nursery or school where checks done - did use au pair once but she had childcare qualification and police check.

Tradespeople you normally can search and find background information on - there's a government approved site, reviews (though watch for fake ones), and often trade bodies. Obviously recommendations are a good route but not often possible. I do meet tradespeople too and ask questions and often spend first day with them but after that trust them to get on with it and never had problems. If I had anything super valuable I would relocate it but most of our stuff isn't worth taking so tend to just keep passports and bank cards with me.

I know Whatsthepoint I can't get it out of my head, sick and disturbing. So sad 😞

I'd be a bit concerned about a website offering babysitting that appeared to do no checking at all and would be more likely to go with either friends of friends or an organisation that did proper registering and checking of sitters.
