AIBU to not like live music?

What fun is there in watching a person sing on a stage, queuing to get in and overpriced food and drink. I could watch this on tv, or radio???

ah yabu!! Live music is just my very favourite activity!
But DP works in music so I don't have to queue. Unless it's someone I really want to see off my own back..then certainly don't mind queuing.
I tend to go to smaller venues though.. a lot less hassle. Nothing beats watching and listening live! For me, doesn't compare to cd or radio
Also it's a social thing for me as most of my friends are gig goers. It's how I met DP in the first place, not at a gig but certainly because of live music

CheddarIsNotTheOnlyCheese · 06/02/2019 03:18

A few years back I would've also said YABU but a pint pot of piss narrowly missing my face and someone attempting to get away with putting his hands in my knickers by saying he slipped and fell hand first into my crotch put me off stadium gigs for life. Both these were at Old Trafford. Mind you someone tried pickpocketing me at the Academy on Oxford Rd so I don't know what to tell ya. The first stadium gig I went to was Queen at Maine road in the mid 80s with my uncle. It was electric.

mywigwamneedsnewflaps · 06/02/2019 03:20

I would pay good money not to go !
But I don't much like music anyway

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 06/02/2019 03:23

Watching someone sing to me is watching someone talk in a meeting... I switch off and doodle

I’ve been to a couple of live shows in the last few years that I thoroughly enjoyed. In every case, the key to enjoyment was being able to afford to splurge on a seat that I actually got to sit in. One was the front row of an upper section. Another was an elevated table at a small club. You get the idea. Makes a world of difference to my enjoyment of a show

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 06/02/2019 03:40

I’m getting the idea that you never get to sit down? I’ll invite you to my house, I have comfortable sofas!

OP posts:
Bellasorellaa · 06/02/2019 03:50

I don’t unless it’s a festival

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 06/02/2019 04:59

But you don't want to sit down.

You want to be off your feet dancing/moshing/just moving.

Listening to music on a cd i understand why you sit down and switch off live music how you can switch off i don't know. its the atmosphere, its being with friends, its the social aspect (i autistic so normally something so social isn't high on my priorities) voices sound very different recorded even live on tv the voice is different.

That said i've never been to a gig where piss would be thrown at anyone.

Its like anything its gejerally better live sport is better in the staduium than on TV, generally stage is regarded better than screen, and watching at the cinema is better than watching at home. And i appricate that the acting one is slightly snobby, and i guess when it comes to hollywood not strictly true.

We went to a restaurant on Sunday for lunch. There was one table seated outside where a girl and a bloke with a guitar were singing and playing. It was a gorgeous day. Everyone was coming in and asking to be seated away from the music. It was too damn loud, intrusive and that dreadful breathy, out of tune warbling.
There were no tables available that weren't in earshot so we left.
Another restaurant in town thinks it's cosy and cute to have a couple singing and playing over Sunday lunch. It's not. It's bloody awful.

araiwa · 06/02/2019 05:21

Youve been seeing the wrong bands

Mummadeeze · 06/02/2019 06:40

I don’t enjoy concerts either. I fell asleep during Madonna Blush and I love her. But sitting at the back of a massive arena just makes any concert boring. I love clubbing and dancing so if I had to see a band live I would only want to be right at the front with room to dance. But I would really rather not bother to be honest.

lavenderbluedilly · 06/02/2019 06:47

I hate when I’ve paid for seats at a concert then the people in front of me start standing and dancing. I’m probably BU

MacarenaFerreiro · 06/02/2019 07:38

I don't like music either. Never go to concerts, festivals or listen to music radio. Just not interested in it.

And some of the prices for big concerts are extortionate!

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 06/02/2019 07:43

Yep lavender you are get up and dance

CheddarIsNotTheOnlyCheese · 06/02/2019 08:25

That was The Courteeners with the piss lobbing. Been to see Green Day, chillies, Stone Roses, Kings of Leon, Foo fighters and QOTSA amongst many others and managed to avoid piss projectiles. Also it was at a Beyonce gig I was groped which was very strange.

BertrandRussell · 06/02/2019 08:28

Just honk yourself lucky you don’t have non driving performer children....

FreshBoomBatImaTouchIt · 06/02/2019 08:28

Lavender I'm 4ft 11 so can agree with you there. Grin

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 06/02/2019 08:28

YANBU, can't think of anything worse and I LOVE music.

I've seen all my favourite bands. It's hot, painful, miserable and panic inducing. Queues for toilets and drinks are ridiculous, prices are ridiculous, nowhere to sit in many places, can't see anything unless you're right at the front and even then it's shit, I hate it all.

I'd much rather watch it on the TV in the comfort of my own home.

Hippopotas · 06/02/2019 08:29

I think the music sounds better at home. I don’t get tired having to stand and also there are too many people at gigs.

YANBU

ShatnersWig · 06/02/2019 08:32

Almost 44 and never been to a live music gig in my life. Have no intentions of starting now.

Never been to watch any sport live either.

Miserable fucker me.

AlliKaneErikson · 06/02/2019 08:38

Live music doesn’t have to be just a singer- watching an orchestra live, for example, is amazing.

AlliKaneErikson · 06/02/2019 08:40

Although- I kind of agree re one live singer; if it’s more of a ‘show’ I like it, but if they just stand there and sing it’s less entertaining (unless it’s an artist I love).

CheddarIsNotTheOnlyCheese · 06/02/2019 08:45

Shatner I've fallen out of love with it tbh. These days the atmosphere can be odd, you can't even take a bottle of water with you anymore and I need it for all the meds I need throughout the day (which because you can't take bags with you either) has put me off.

SinglePringle · 06/02/2019 08:47

Blimey, I LOVE going to live music performances. Gigs, festivals, large stadium... the atmosphere, the collective experience, the show, the dancing and singing! But I listen to a vast amount of music every day.

Fluffyears · 06/02/2019 08:54

I have found my people. I like music in the background it to dance to but not gigs. So dull! It’s also so expensive when Icahn sit at home comfy and listen to whatever I want.

The worstbit forme is the performer getting the crowd to sing ‘Erm no I paid £50. + booking fee to listen to you not a crowd of randoms! Do your job!’
