Any tips for bloating? Please help!

I suffer with bad IBS and have had all the tests to rule out anything more sinister (blood tests, colonoscopy, CT scan, pelvic scan etc). I’m lactose intolerant so avoid that as much as possible and I also don’t have alcohol or caffeine. I try and limit things like sugar, greasy fried foods and too much fruit too. I’ve tried the low fodmap diet and it didn’t make much different to the horrendous bloating I keep suffering with.
I’ll wake up in the morning with a flat stomach and then go to bed with a rock hard bloated (to the point I look heavily pregnant and at least a dress size bigger). I get very gassy too.
I take a probiotic, kefir and also a turmeric supplement (meant to be good for inflammation).
Do any of you have any other tips as it’s making me miserable. I’m currently lying on the sofa with a huge bloated tummy :-(

I did the FODMAP diet which although it helped didn't cure it completely. Eventually a neurogastroenterologist told me to also do no carb as well as FODMAP (this is hard) but it has worked.

If probiotics make it worse then check out SIBO

My antibody tests for coeliac disease were negative for years, finally diagnosed with duodenal biopsies and gene test, happily strictly gluten free now but still get the odd bloat but I have yet to do fodmap

@CurlyWirlyTwirly

It's really not right to make yourself sick to get rid of food. You risk getting bulimia.

Please see a doctor.

It's gluten for me, I'm also lactose intolerant.

Frosty66611 · 06/02/2019 14:14

Thanks everyone. I’m going to be strict about cutting out gluten for a couple of weeks and see if I notice any improvement. I’ll also try some digestive enzymes and a different probiotic designed specifically for IBS.

Gluten for me, then still had persistent symptoms... Went low FODMAP as instructed by dietician, through the reintroduction phase I now know what causes the bloat/sickness/gas!

Stinkinants · 06/02/2019 14:45

Gluten bloats me too (and gives me horrible stomach cramps) so try avoiding all those ingredients in bold - wheat, barley, barley malt extract! Onions and beetroot have the same effect on me too..cutting all that out and going Gluten free has made 100% difference. I too tested negative for coeliacs!

Broccoli and peppers are triggers for me. Colpermin is good if you want peppermint tablets.

Long time ibs sufferer here too. I have tried all sorts for the bloat. Kefir and fodmap etc made not a blind bit of difference.

I am not in UK but I think you can get it in UK, its drops called Iberogast. They are the only thing that works for me. In fact I am having a flare up at the moment, as I ate one, yes ONE piece of pizza with a gluten base. If you can find them, they taste a bit iffy but they work and you get used to the taste.

I stay away from all gluten, lactose, bananas, anything with skin on, the list just goes on. Its so frustrating. I lost so much weight that people though I was ill. For me it was just easiest not to eat, as anything that I did, just caused pain in the end. I am getting there now with a limited diet but I do know what I can and sort of cannot eat now.

I find too much bread makes me bloated, I don't think it's the gluten as I could eat loads of pasta so I've come to the conclusion it's the yeast. There are explanations online of how a yeast imbalance creates gas and bloating and gives a comprehensive list of foods to avoid. I find that keeping to one slice of bread a day is enough for me to control it (god forbid it gets worse and I have to cut out alcohol). The best tablets I've found to help are Colpermin.

There doesn’t seem to be one thing does there
I’m having a right carry on right now
