I’m 18 years old with a 1 year old baby my parents have split and my dad wants me to go visit him. He loves in Norfolk and I would need to get a train from Newcastle, is my mother being unreasonable by saying I’m not allowed on a train with my son?

How unreasonable of her to ask you to not have a relationship with your father! (And for your baby to not see his grandfatherSad) If you want to go, go- and have fun! Travelling with a baby is so much easier than with a toddler.

Maybe you should consider applying for a part time job (if you can find childcare) or at least studying online so you're taking more responsibility- then she can't boss you around as much as you'll be pursuing a career/furthering your education.

Is living with your dad not an option? He sounds much more preferable than your controlling mother.

Go! You will be fine, your baby will be fine. Your mum is being a muppet.

babycatcher411 · 05/02/2019 20:28

This
She is definitely using that as an excuse to not go and see your dad. She has zero rights to tell you what to do.

I don’t think it has anything to do with the baby on the train. I had my son when I was 15 and had been perfectly capable of getting a train, with or without him, by that point in my life.

Twisique · 05/02/2019 20:29

Will she ask you to move out if you do go to see your dad?

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 05/02/2019 20:33

I was 17 when I had dd. My dm also made me think I could not manage. She also tried to prevent my estranged df having a good relationship with her. In her eyes he was a crap df and didn't deserve to be allowed to be a dgf. I made my own choices. You can and should too.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 05/02/2019 20:37

Does your father support you in any way?

babysharkah · 05/02/2019 20:39

You're old enough to have a one year old you're old enough to get on a bloody train with your child.

3boysandabump · 05/02/2019 20:46

I'd say this is more about you going to see your dad than anything else.

Of course she can have house rules if you're living in her house rent free but that doesn't mean she can control your whole life.

Preggo1 · 05/02/2019 21:01

Update guys she’s just worried that’s all but my father is going to pay for my train tickets, I’m going to see him Grin

Good. Enjoy the trip to see your dad. FlowersSmile

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 05/02/2019 21:17

Was he always going to pay or did he just decide now?

Preggo1 · 05/02/2019 21:23

He was going to pay for it anyway

It's a train to Norfolk not Japan 😂 you'll be fine. If you're old enough to raise a child you are more than capable to get a bloody train.

Take a book or magazine, some snacks for you and baby and get on with living life.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 05/02/2019 21:28

Enjoy your trip. Hopefully you'll be able to still have a nice relationship wth your father, despite the distance and your mum.
