AIBU to flag that the UK economy is at risk of collapse in a no deal situation

Not to belittle the concerns of the OP on another thread about childcare but we might not even have much left in the way of work if our economy crashes. Women will be disproportionately affected (as always in a crisis). If the forecasts are correct, there is a risk of proper depression. That's going to affect everything and life will be much, much tougher.
Please prove me wrong. Facts only please and no woolly long term projections- I'm very much interested in what the next couple of years will bring!

No you are right - we are all doomed to doomery. Doomed I tell ya.
Doomed.

That's the facts, not wooly projections.

(am I doing this right?)

NCjustforthisthread · 05/02/2019 19:37

Are you an economic forecaster?

DanielRicciardosSmile · 05/02/2019 19:39

Possibly not unreasonable, but perhaps a little pointless raising it here. It's not like we can do anything one way or another unless they suddenly decide to call a second referendum.

williteverend99 · 05/02/2019 19:40

Well not even the most pessimistic of forecasts from remain economists suggests a „collapse“.

Whatsnewwithyou · 05/02/2019 19:43

I agree with you OP. Scary times. I've been writing to my MP and signing online petitions, I've also got a little stockpile of food and medicines and that's about all I or most of is can probably do. I thought about opening a bank account in dollars or euros somewhere but don't really have enough savings to make that worthwhile.

birdling · 05/02/2019 19:43

Oh for heaven's sake! What exactly do you expect us to do about it?Hmm

Ylvamoon · 05/02/2019 19:47

I don't think it will collapse, but there will be a downturn. Some industries would be affected more than others...

jimmyhill · 05/02/2019 19:47

Anyone who cares already has a fixed opinion on this.

Anyone who doesn't is about to livd the consequences of Brexit, for better or worse.

Bit late for warnings. Strap in and enjoy the ride brace, brace, brace

SpringForEver · 05/02/2019 19:47

Thanks for the depressing and unnecessary thread.

I avoid the Brexit topic because I am really struggling with the worry of it all and every couple of days some tit will come in and post yet another thread about it and not even in the Brexit topic where I can avoid it and others can debate until the cows come home, or not.

StepAwayFromGoogle · 05/02/2019 20:10

I'm taking a sanguine view of this now. The economy may take a hit, we may end up in a recession, but we will recover, jobs will come back, house prices will recover. 'It will all come out in the wash' as my DNan used to say.

starzig · 05/02/2019 20:27

It will weed out the weak and the poor, then things will improve.

lljkk · 05/02/2019 20:32

... for starzig.

colouringinpro · 05/02/2019 20:34

Realistically, yes I think it will send us into an economic depression. Which will do wonders for my Brexit exacerbated major depression.
