Preschool trip

Really no idea if I’m over-reacting or not but my oh isn’t ecstatic about it either! My DD goes to preschool three days a week. We receive an email at the beginning of each week explaining what they’ll be learning about that week and what trips (if any) they’re going on. There aren’t many trips, just the odd one to local library / police station etc on average once every two months. Last week there was nothing mentioned about any trips out but when my DD got home it transpired they’d all gone out to post a letter at the postbox. It isn’t far, but is a 15 minute walk at childrens’ pace, an easy walk though. AIBU to expect to know if my DD is going elsewhere? I just sort of feel that I drop her off behind a secure school gate and have a right to know if she’s being taken elsewhere. There are a couple of other minor issues that irritate me about the place but on the whole she’s really happy there.

Presuming you have signed a general consent form for trips then yabu.

Most nurseries do little walks and trips with the children. I wouldn’t expect to know everything in advance because sometimes opportunities just pop up

You're being a bit precious I think.

Whynotnowbaby · 05/02/2019 16:52

It wouldn’t worry me personally, they will have risk assessed it and have good staff to child ratios. I love it when my children get out and about. We live abroad now so my expectations are different (2yo ds has used sewing machines and hammers at school) but even when we were in U.K. dd went on little walks for example to the war memorial around Remembrance Day without me knowing in advance.

Lwmommy · 05/02/2019 16:52

That wouldnt bother me at all, when DD was at preschool last year they went out most day s.and didnt need permission for individual.outings as they had a catch all form we signed at the beginning of the year.

They took them to the park, a local city farm, into town to build a bear and for walks round the market.......

As long as she was back for pick up time i was fine . I entrusted my child to them and they never gave me reason to feel she wasnt safe and cared for.

I don’t think nursery told us about trips to the library or park, I’m pretty sure I signed a general form when they started.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 05/02/2019 16:58

I signed a general form for little trips out like these for both a private nursery and also for the school nursery he now attends. In fact DS went to the post office last week with school and there was no additional form to sign, it was mentioned in passing but not for consent purposes.

The only time I have to give consent now is on bigger trips that incur a cost, so they want my signature and money Grin

I think most nurseries do this, certainly in my town. I signed a general consent form when they joined nursery to say they can go out for local trips and walks. You can opt out of this and your child will stay at the nursery while the children that are allowed to go explore.

StateofIndependance · 05/02/2019 17:09

Yes at mine they made it clear that they would take children off the premises for trips like this and we signed a general consent form to cover it.

It's important that children at nurseries get out into the world and the local community and don't just spend all of their time in the confines of an institution. Your Dd is only there for 3 days but some spend 50 hours a week in childcare.

HopeGarden · 05/02/2019 17:23

The nursery we used asked parents to sign a general consent form when children started, that gave the nursery permission to take children out on walking trips around the area.

So explicit parental consent was only needed for bigger trips out in buses etc.

Thanks everyone. I genuinely did wonder whether I was being ott. I appreciate everyone’s insight! Thank you.
