To think PCOS has just reversed itself?

It might be really stupid, but I think that my PCOS has reversed itself? A bit of a jump I know, but hear me out.

I always had a normal period like clockwork, period went back to normal after having DD at 17, I didn’t notice anything off at all, until my periods were all over the place at the age of 18.
Until I just stopped getting regular periods, just one every 3-6 months. This went on for years, I’ve been with DH for 8 years, and I’ve maybe had 2-3 periods a year since.

But recently I’ve noticed a change.

I had a period in September, had one in October, and have been quite unwell since then, but distinctly remember one in November, one that came on 31st December and I had my period start again on 2nd Feb.

Is it possible that something’s reversed the PCOS?

I don’t want to get too excited but my period is so much lighter, the cramps I’m getting are different. I’m growing less facial hair, my periods have just over a month between. I know when I’m going to get my period because I’m getting that sort of tummy ache instead of pain for 2-3 weeks before actually coming on and I don’t know how, but my hair seems thicker. The front of my head has fuller hair!

Sorry? I just needed to talk about this!

Have you lost a lot of weight?

GoldenBlue · 04/02/2019 20:31

It can improve, which it sounds like it has. Low carbs and Atkins diet is supposed to have that effect, have you lost weight recently? Sounds like good news Smile

My periods were so irregular/absent for years. After having my first DC, they’ve been regular as clockwork! I’m still a bit spotty but don’t have any other symptoms.

I've lost 3 and a half stone and my periods have come back regularly too. Wish I could say that I have less hair, but sadly not

Smile I am so glad that I’m not the only one going through this happy situation!

I did actually lose 3 and a bit stone but I haven’t weighed myself in many months, but the weight is still coming off (slowly) by the feel of my clothes!

I didn’t think anything would improve until I’d lost all the weight.. xx

I got told losing 10% of my weight would increase my chances of getting pregnant. I got put on metformin to help reduce my weight, but if you can lose the weight without, keep trying. Metformin didn't suit me & made me really ill, every day I took a tablet, I spent the day on the toilet with the runs & my head in a bucket

I had pcos for years, then when I wanted to get pg I went to ask the GP for help with that. I was expecting some form of medication, but she told me I'd need a referral for the fertility clinic and needed to lose at least 3 stone for them to accept me in my area. So I lost 2.5 stone and my periods started and other symptoms sort of disappeared. I didn't need any fertility treatment in the end and had dd2 8 years ago.

I've not been tested since having dd2, but I don't have any symptoms any more so I think mines gone too.

I do think it's possible to reverse it, and a healthy lifestyle is a good thing to attempt.

When I was initially diagnosed with PCOS (over 30 years ago) my specialist said that it was a cruel irony that having a baby would help the symptoms but falling pregnant initially would be very difficult.

I've had 3 children and with each subsequent baby my periods became more and more regular until my cycle was bang on 28 days after my 3rd child. I then had a uterine scan as part of investigation into endometriosis and no cysts could be seen, so maybe he was right.

Weight loss is a huge factor in alleviating PCOS symptoms. A Low-carb diet is also a key factor for longer-term improvement. Good luck and hugs xxx
