To ask what your HR department are like?

Honestly just curious.

Whenever I've had to deal with HR at my work I've had nothing but unpleasant experiences and generally find them to be very inconsiderate and unhelpful.

Got signed off work sick for anxiety and depression and got hounded when I finally went back as it "wasn't fair" on the rest of the team..

Always remember, hr aren't there to support YOU, they are there to support the organisation.

So far beyond shit that I’ve come to the conclusion they’re actually on a mission to crash the whole organisation.

I know they’re management lackeys but they’re not even good at it, ffs.

Woefully shite - I wish I had recourse tbh, but it seems HR professionals can not follow the Acas Code of Conduct multiple times with total impunity. And also treat the Equalities Act as though it's optional.

I have previously worked places where HR was absolutely great, though.

It will only be a matter of time before an HR person comes on here and starts wanging on about all the hearts n flowers shit they do for their colleagues, mind you. Not only are they terrible, they’re also pretty thin skinned when it comes to criticism.

I haven't had a lot to do with mine, only maternity leave/pay and occasional sickness.
I do work in a school though so there might be less of a "company pushing you to come back because its costing to muc h"

Exactly what pp said. They aren’t there to protect you from the organisation they’re there to protect the organisation from you. A common misconception.

My old place my manager was harassing me and I was getting shitty emails about my bipolar. Their solution? Block her. Block my manager? Okay that sounds like it will work with rotas and training stuff so thanks for that! Left about a week later

Never had good experiences from them, especially when I was refused entitled mat pay because of a fault on their end. Weeks of calling up different departments, HMRC, being thrown from pillar to post, told by everyone that it was nothing to do with them, weeks of grovelling. It only took for one person to listen to my cries to write a letter to HMRC and them accept this letter and I got my full mat pay. HR don't care about someone that's easily replaceable.

You're right, they probably don't care if they can replace somebody easily but I feel that is so wrong

Fantastic. I'm one of them. We dont do hearts and flowers that's not our jobs. I do laugh at some of the things people say to 'go to hr' about on here 😂🙄

Mine are great. Big company though so they get hauled over coals if they weren't.

The one that was present when I was made redundant was visibly shocked when I said I was surprised we were having the conversation as just 6 weeks prior, I'd received a formal apology from HR, and acknowledgement that my bonus had wrongfully been withdrawn because I worked part time. He went puce when he realised he didn't have a pretty vital piece of information. I was furious at the time but it makes me chuckle now at how he looked like a rabbit in the headlights. Totally incompetent.

HR work for the company, they are there to manage absence etc and keeps costs as low as possible.

In an ideal world they do this humanely and certainly within the the law but they're not there for your benefit.

They are there to protect the company and hire and fire you. That’s it. They aren’t there to be sympathetic.

Not do we manage absence that's the line managers role.
You do all know most HR people in a non admin role are on £40-£100k minimum right? More for senior people

Our HR are shocking, but it's not their fault. Their senior manager is appalling so they have the highest turnover of staff in the whole company. A new manager was recruited as a level between the HR admin and the senior manger and he last three days.

As a result, there is currently a six month backlog of their "tickets" if not urgent.

I work for a very large national company that most of you will have heard of. It's honestly ridiculous.
