AIBU to think being on Slimming World is utterly miserable?

I'd be interested in that actually, please share your 5 syn banana split recipe. The lightest ice cream I've found is 3 syns for 2 scoops.

Gingerkittykat · 04/02/2019 15:14

I hated it, the group had an almost cult like feel and I hated the food.

I hate muller lights, anything with sweeteners, all of the things like packaged mug shots which are syn free.

I love bread, and hated the fact that a simple packaged sandwich took me over my syn allowance.

Straight calorie counting works for me, that way I can have whatever I want in moderation.

flamingofridays · 04/02/2019 15:17

op why don't you calorie count then you can have all that stuff, just not too much of it....

BarbaraofSevillle · 04/02/2019 15:31

Oh FGS, not this again. Is your imagination so limited that you cannot think of any other free foods than mug shots and muller lights? You don't have to eat these things. You're supposed to eat meat, fish, eggs, pulses, veg, salad and fruit, you know, normal food.

If you want a sandwich make your own with your bread and cheese allowance. Or have a look at one of the M&S high protein low bread ones if making a sandwich is too taxing for you. Once slice of bread with twice as much filling as usual.

Travis1 · 04/02/2019 15:35

Slimming world has its place OP but if you are struggling so badly with it then a Calorie Deficit may be the better option. Check out James Smith on facebook or do his 5 day free trial on the academy.

Totally bullshit free and nothing is off limits if it is tracked. A greggs sausage roll does have about 400 calories though!!

Haisuli · 04/02/2019 15:43

I'm doing calorie counting. It is working. I have lost 6 pounds since Jan 3rd. The main thing for me is realising how many calories things have in them. Like the other day I was going to have a Cadbury boost and it was 250 calories, so I didn't, and that would have been nothing to me before. Now I could have it but id have to have a very low calorie tea to make up for it or extra exercise.
I know what you mean though, I love sausage rolls and crisps.

Gingerkittykat · 04/02/2019 15:44

I struggle with my mental health, I'm not always up to cooking and preparing meals. Even if I was, I just didn't like the plan.

See what I mean about it being almost cult like. People who love the plan being militant about its benefits and not accepting it doesn't work for others.

MrMeeseekscando · 04/02/2019 15:49

SW Relies so heavily on foods that are rammed full of sweeteners.
Just look at their ridiculous cereal bars they push so heavily.
That banana split is a classic example of the so called healthy treats that the SW evangelists at my group adored.
Spend hours making a frankenfood pale imitation using sugar free cheats and kid yourself that it tastes good to satisfy a craving?
Or just occasionally allow yourself a little treat so you don't go off the rails?
When I went to SW yes I lost weight. I also became spectacularly dull to be around. Put it back on too.
Just a bit of portion control and a few sensible choices? It came off and it's still off.

Sirzy · 04/02/2019 15:53

The good thing with SW is you can work it however you need if you are focused and willing to change.

You can cook every meal from scratch easily and have a wide variety of meals.

You can use the processed foods which are in the plan.

You can eat the ready meals.

You can combine the above as fits your life.

My experience is those who mainly focus on the cooking of proper meals generally do better long term, probably because that does change habits more, but you can work it however suits you.

Boysandbuses · 04/02/2019 15:54

I do slimming world and don't eat sweetener.

I don't why people think you have to.

Mummyme87 · 04/02/2019 16:01

SW works here aswell. I don’t use sweeteners, cook from scratch, eat chocolate and cake and I have a take away once a week, because ya know 🤷🏼‍♀️

RussellSprout · 04/02/2019 16:03

Have you looked into Alan Carr's book about sugar? He kind of brainwashes you to not want to eat it... could be worth a try?

slashlover · 04/02/2019 16:05

That banana split is a classic example of the so called healthy treats that the SW evangelists at my group adored.

Which is why I had it rarely.

I also cooked mainly from scratch and had a little bit of chocolate every day.

itsboiledeggsagain · 04/02/2019 16:40

I totally bought into the idea that sw was all about sweetener and Wierd puddings but I haven't had any of those things. It has really enabled me to expand my recipe repertoire

Mia1415 · 04/02/2019 16:46

SW Relies so heavily on foods that are rammed full of sweeteners.

No it doesn't. I've been doing SW for the past month and can't and won't eat anything with sweeteners in it.

Sonicknuckles · 04/02/2019 16:48

That's it, I love bread too and it's really hard cutting it out. Ignore me I'm just feeling miserable and need enthusiasm.

OP posts:
Sirzy · 04/02/2019 16:49

You don’t need to cut it out though, you just need to eat it in moderation

TulipsInbloom1 · 04/02/2019 16:50

If I'm having a treat once a month, then it will be full fat, full flavour, full joy banana split. Not some random sachet hybrid.

labazsisgoingmad · 04/02/2019 16:51

i hate veg most fruit spicy food and dont eat meat but i persist with sw i have reduced from a size 24 to a 16 it is easier if you like those thing i hate but it can be done you dont need to forsake things you like thats what syns are there for i dont have time or money to faff about but i eat well and manage to have quite a few treats sometimes i feel its like being back at school all the clapping for losing half a pound etc all the lectures etc but at least it keeps you on straight and narrow noone wants to hear you have had a gain this week whats gone wrong

TulipsInbloom1 · 04/02/2019 16:53

OP you honestly won't lose weight til you find a way of healthy eating that works for you.if SW isn't it, then try something new.

I'm fat. I love cakes and bread etc. But I know my body needs better than I used to feed it. I don't do SW as I didn't like it. But I've now found a system which works for me.

Just try something else.

Boysandbuses · 04/02/2019 17:59

That's it, I love bread too and it's really hard cutting it out. Ignore me I'm just feeling miserable and need enthusiasm

You don't have to cut bread out though. You can have it everyday. More than once if you wanted

If it's not for you it's not for you. But no diet will no include reducing the foods you have listed.

Why do you think you have to cut bread out?

MumMumMum1 · 04/02/2019 20:08

Ooo I hope not I have my first meeting on Thursday! I’m 23 weeks pregnant with my second but was told that’s fine! & a friend on it has lost 10.5lbs & seems to be able to eat loads!! I have a huge appetite! Just can’t bare trying to lose all of it after the baby is born. It’s my last hope 😬

Crunchymum · 04/02/2019 20:56

Why are you going to SW at 23 weeks pregnant?

MumMumMum1 · 05/02/2019 12:27

To lose weight @Crunchymum! I need to be making more healthy choices but still having hearty portions hoping SW can help with that. I need to lose some weight, trust me this is better for my health/baby than gaining more unnecessary weight over the next 17 weeks!
