Cleaning out my bedroom. Although I've thoroughly cleaned and dusted it, the room is still missing that fresh smell. I'm washing all the fabrics and have had the window open for 4 hours+. aibu to ask your top tips to freshen the smell in bedrooms.

Essential oils and an electric diffuser from amazon. Synthetic chemical air fresheners aren’t good for you, family pets or the environment.

Kikipost · 04/02/2019 14:07

No plug in!!! Please no plug in

It’s simple. Clean environment, windows opened daily for a few hours

SandAndSea · 04/02/2019 14:10

Some essential oils can be dangerous for pets - always check that before blasting a room.

Zoflora in a bucket of warm water and give my carpets a nice wipe down with it. The next day I use the 1001 carpet freshner spray, also do not forget to clean out your radiator there is a lot of trapped dust and smells, i then slip a lenor tumble dryer sheet down there when the radiator heats up you have a nice faint smell.

Also just as been mentioned a nice candle for your bedroom helps, I like fresh linen smell.

Feelingfullandreadytoclean · 04/02/2019 14:15

Open windows. Scented candle if you wish. Regular vacuum and dust.

Plug ins are awful things. Don't use them.

ShesAnEasyLlama · 04/02/2019 14:17

Declutter! The only reason my room small less fresh than the rest of my house us because it get used as a dumping ground for everything that can't be housed elsewhere/I have too many clothes and shoes.

I'm on the verge of going in with a flamethrower. Tackling DS's pit first though.

I’m in the open windows, clean rooms (empty bins, no food waste etc) & regularly changed linens (towels, bed linen, kitchen tea towels etc).

Grrr posted too soon

I’m in the open windows, clean rooms (empty bins, no food waste etc) & regularly changed linens (towels, bed linen, kitchen tea towels etc) camp. Avoid air fresheners, even ‘posh’ scented candles, they all smell like you’re hiding something.

I know it isn’t a popular idea over in the MN ‘litter tray’ either, but I empty and clean the tray every time my cat uses it for a no2. Admittedly that isn’t often anymore but until recently I had a cat with dementia who used the tray exclusively, so it was being changed twice a day. I don’t understand ‘scoopers’. You always leave traces behind and it still stinks. Sorry but it does. I’ve had cats all my life adore them but it just does, no matter the style of tray or litter used, or where in the house you hide it.

SpringForEver · 04/02/2019 14:33

Scented candles, good ones like Floris, you don't need to use them for long. I also burn them after scooping the litter tray and ensuring that all the used bits are removed, they take a bit longer but with the windows/patio doors open it clears the smell. I have a very sensitive nose and can't live with smells I don't like.

Old carpet or underlay can stop a room being fresh, even after shampooing, underlay can harbour mould if it has been slightly damp and that smells. Also sniff the walls, some paint smells a bit stale, and even washing with bleach doesn't remove it.

Green house plants purify the air

User383673 · 04/02/2019 22:18

Drop some lavender (or any scent) essential oil on a cotton pad and tuck it into your radiator. It will smell lush.

44PumpLane · 04/02/2019 22:26

Pure essential oils - though make sure to investigate properly as some are not suitable for use by pregnant ladies or those with young babies and some are not suitable for pets.

ShirleyPhallus · 04/02/2019 22:26

Incense does not make a room smell fresh!!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 04/02/2019 22:28

I love coming home to the house smelling of Lenor Fresh Meadow

Funnily enough I came home to
Sheets drying on radiator and it did smell nice Grin

SaucyJack · 04/02/2019 22:33

Can you borrow a carpet washer? See if that helps.

If something smells stale, then 10/10 times it’s always better to wash the source of it rather than masking it with artificial smells.

Firefretted · 04/02/2019 22:36

Spritz with white vinegar and leave for an hour. Room smells of absolutely nothing once it's dried :-)

Fluffyears · 04/02/2019 22:55

Plug ins are a fire risk please don’t leave them on when you go out. My friend works in a care setting and the fire brigade do a safety check every year. This was one of the things they highlighted, warming chemicals for hours isn’t a good idea.
