To say wheelchairs and everything to do with them is shit

Im out and about with DS' new wheelchair.

For the first time Its beautifully supportive. Decent headrest...

And shockingly heavy and I cant work out how i keep him dry in it.

The poncho with used on previous chairs (which i butchered to get over the headrest) flaps around all over the place getting in my way and letting in rain

Why is nothing to do with wheelchairs well designed?

Pads not lads!!

Booboostwo · 04/02/2019 15:25

These are the ones I use. They are very light weight and fold into themselves to become half the length for transporting. I have used them for a manual wheelchair (just the wheelchair, I don’t think they would be safe for a person to stay in the wheelchair) and a relatively high off the ground car and they worked really well.

Becca I'm imagining lads following you around with a commode Blush

Is the wheelchair seat not waterproof i know my pad is plastic under the cover making it much quicker to dry in the rain. I don't tend to go out much in bad weather when I have to use my chair as they are just so heavy. I'm currently wearing my prosthetic leg even though my stump is bleeding because I'm low on energy and can't possibly lift my chair into my boot and need to get the kids from school.

So i have learnt i am too knackered by the end off the day to do without ramps anymore so i will be more proactive booking special assistance (although it would have been rubbish today as we didnt escape from hospital in time for the train wed planned). But DS is much more comfortable in the new chair as so is happy to stay in it in the train which i reckon is a small win.

@Booboostwo oh ive seen them online before i assumed (wrongly!) they were more for if you were staying in the chair in the car... Off to find you tube videos of them in action

@Windmillsinsummer yes it is but looks much like an incontinence cushion so we put a cool cover on it. Im thinking i might need to take it off for rain. Mind you then the water might just pool in the buttock dips

@Becca19962014 i feel your pain. I dont even bother chasing the NHS for insoles these days. Neither of mine would havd got treated if it wasnt for me paying to go private consultants and ive paid for private physio too for sizeable length of time. DD "doesnt meet the criteria" for physio locally but the national centre of excellence shows no sign of discharging her despite the fact it costs a fortune for us to get up there. Ive had to pay for the hill brakes for DS' wheelchair myself. Id buy a decent lightweight wheelchair for DS too if i could but i have no idea if one exists

So on the everything to do with wheelchairs is crap and expensive i was looking for booboo's ramp.

I found these and realised we actually had them for pur front door for a while but they were such a fuddle to use i just bounced him up (wonder uf i actually xould do that now). Tgey are over 100 quid

And these advertised as Quad Motorcycle Lawnmower Scooter Machinery Heavy Duty
here for £45 and im wondering what the difference is....
