Birthday party at 10am on sunday at softplay?

My sons 4th birthday is on a saturday this month but we would like to do something as a family that day. Am going to book him a party at the local soft play on the sunday. The slots are at 10am or 1am.

AIBU to have the party at 10am is that too early for most? It's 2hrs long so party food will be around 11.30 so almost lunch time for them.

We had ours at 10.30 at a soft play and it worked well. They enjoyed playing and then demolished the food when it arrived at 11.30. Everybody we invited came so I think it's a time that generally people don't have much on for.

wendz86 · 04/02/2019 08:39

Would be fine for me and means you have all afternoon free .

Jackshouse · 04/02/2019 08:39

Much better than the middle of the day.

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 04/02/2019 08:40

I think 10 is fine as it leaves the rest of the day, 1 pm messes the day and means having to eat lunch early

Seline · 04/02/2019 08:41

It's a better time than most. Tire the kids out in the morning, calm afternoon and then they'll sleep well.

Canshopwillshop · 04/02/2019 08:41

I think it’s fine. Most people with kids that age will have been up early so I wouldn’t have thought 10am would be considered too early.

ArfArfBarf · 04/02/2019 08:41

Perfect time. Leaves the afternoon free and it’s often much quieter first thing.

SoyDora · 04/02/2019 08:42

Would be fine for us.

Sindragosan · 04/02/2019 08:42

10-12 seems normal here, we're all up early anyway.

Basecamp65 · 04/02/2019 08:43

We prefer parties at this time - 10am - as it means we are done and dusted well before lunch and have the rest of the day to do what we want. for us 1pm would be our absolutely worst time as it would mean no time to do anything before and no time to do anything after - taking up the whole families whole day.

However I suspect their will be many others who feel the opposite - one thing that is absolutely true is there is no perfect time to do anything that suits everyone just as there is no perfect place.

Do what feel right for you.

Di11y · 04/02/2019 08:46

we did morning parties til 4 yrs then afternoon as many started having swimming, football etc and less issues with naps etc.

SweetheartNeckline · 04/02/2019 08:46

10am or 3pm are the best times for parties, especially if most people are coming from fairly locally and if there's a car park outside (Sunday buses often don't get started until a bit later round here.)

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 04/02/2019 08:47

I wish more kids birthday parties were in the morning. It means you have the rest of the day to yourselves. 10am is hardly the crack of dawn and most people with DC will be up early anyway.

Disfordarkchocolate · 04/02/2019 08:48

Really good time, the children are ready for lunch and everyone still has their afternoon free.

IShitGlitter · 04/02/2019 08:50

10am it is then! Its the first proper birthday party weve done its normally family tea party but hes asked for a party this year.

For party bags am thinking a box or bag with a helium balloon attached sweets bubbles and cake is this enough?

OP posts:
Disfordarkchocolate · 04/02/2019 08:52

No helium balloons please, very bad for the environment.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 04/02/2019 08:52

Long time ago since mine were small but yea, 10.00 would have been fine and I would have taken them along .

mintich · 04/02/2019 08:54

I would like that time, frees up the rest of the day!

Camomila · 04/02/2019 08:54

Is he in the year before primary? A few DC may be at church then (depending on local schools)

Kemer2018 · 04/02/2019 09:01

10 is fine. Gets it out of the way early and leaves the rest of the day free.

AlpacaLypse · 04/02/2019 09:07

Please don't hand out helium balloons. I found yet another one tangled in a tree on Thursday.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/02/2019 09:11

My dd has very successfully arranged her very small dcs' parties for this sort of time. Very sensible IMO - they are not too tired to enjoy it and the rest of the day is free.

hamzilla · 04/02/2019 09:12

It's the perfect time - the end coincides with lunchtime as opposed to that weird mid afternoon slot, it gives people the rest of the day, and soft play is quieter in the morning so less big kids trampling around.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 04/02/2019 09:12

A tube of blowing bubbles is better than a balloon.

Slipperboots · 04/02/2019 09:14

I’d have preferred that. Better than a small child asking when you are going all day!
