Young grandmother names!

My 21 year old dd is making me a grandma just in time for my 40th birthday!
I'm happy to be nana (because Janice in Benidorm is my grandparent goal but my dd says she'll call the baby Coolio if I go for that) .
Does anyone go by anything less conventional than nan, granny etc?
I'm a bit excited!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/02/2019 13:27

my mum became a grandma at 31
I know it happens but Shock

1967chaz · 04/02/2019 13:28

I'm mammo , was 47 when I came a grandparent

SqueakingHamsters · 04/02/2019 13:30

Oma is Dutch. My favorite though is Yaya, used in Spain. We hear it all the time (we live in Spain) and it always sounds so full of love.

angieloumc · 04/02/2019 13:43

If you say so Parthenhope. I myself wouldn't like to be called Nan but each to their own.
I'm happy with being Nanna, but would've been equally happy with Grandma/Granny.

angieloumc · 04/02/2019 13:48

Sorry Parthenope 🙂

Rainbunny · 04/02/2019 14:15

OG as in "original gangster" ("original grandma")?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 04/02/2019 14:39

We ended up with a Grandmum.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 04/02/2019 16:09

My mum didn’t want to pick a grandma name. DS picked his own (Nanny) and she’s happily gone along with that ever since Smile congrats.

Bouncingbelle · 04/02/2019 16:14

I think Nonna is cute!

Bluelady · 04/02/2019 16:15

The German version is Oma, I quite like that or Nonna, which is Italian.

MrsJayy · 04/02/2019 16:19

My mum was a Grandparent at 40 and she is now mid 60s and was just Gran it kinda ages nicely I had a Nana it is fine honestly just drip feed it in

wildbhoysmama · 04/02/2019 16:34

My sister was in your predicament and she plumped for Nonna, she suits it. My friend is PapaG (G is his surname) which is great, I think.

Subeccoo · 04/02/2019 16:42

To the poster who said about the other grandmother - actually there's gonna be 4 of us.... thoroughly modern both dd and her dps parents are all divorced and remarried... My husband is just as excited to be a grandad as if it was his own child having a baby! Lots of love to share.

I'm interested in the nanny/ lower class debate. When I had dd I shuddered at the thought of nanny or nan, and like I said my mum was granny/ grandma and exh mum was nan (my parents were middle class, his were working class).

I am a professional with an excellent job but am definitely considering nana, I think it's cute now.

Its just preference surely???

Don't know if this has been suggested but how about Nonna?

Nonna is the Italian word for grandmother and a Russian feminine name.

No nonsense Nonna Grin

BumCheeks · 04/02/2019 16:50

Lol Grin just seen the previous post. Nonna already mentioned. Sounds cool to me.

MrsPinkCock · 04/02/2019 16:52

My (ex) ILs were GPs in their mid 40s.

They insisted on using their real names. No GP reference at all.

I called them granny and grandpa Grin

Babyboysarenowbig · 04/02/2019 16:53

We’ve had:-
Nan
Nanny
Gran
Gan Gan
Granny
Grandma
Nanna

JasperKarat · 04/02/2019 16:54

My DN calls her grandparents by their pet's names! Eg nana catsname , my DF she calls by a different name which started when she couldn't say grandad but still ends it with with the dog's name, no one encouraged her to, maybe wait and see what the GC chooses!

wink1970 · 04/02/2019 16:56

I'm Nanny, also pronounced as NAAAAAANNN!! when she wants something Grin

JasperKarat · 04/02/2019 17:03

I think Oma, Opa, Yaya, Nonna etc are lovely if you have a link to those countries if not it's a bit weird and try hard

Woohoo1 · 04/02/2019 17:12

I’m loving the post when fil wanted to be called Gdog!!!!

Paperdolly · 04/02/2019 20:51

It sounds common and rough, I just don't like it. Very rough part of town. Personal preference, we all Have them!

😂. This made I laarf!!

My son protested at being left with Granny Basher. I can assure everyone she was the most gentle of people you could ever meet. 😳

HaveYouNameChangedForThis · 04/02/2019 21:16

My Dsis's DC call our DM (their DGma) GG, she's quite a young grandma as well. Mine call her Gran - she felt Grandma, Nan etc too old for her but Gran sounds quite active and a bit younger so she doesn't mind it but I think she prefers GG!
