To lance this? (Dental)

I'm fully prepared to be told I'm BU for even thinking about it.

Have an infection in a tooth (crown dropped out and it got infected while I was waiting for an appointment)

Went to the emergency dentist yesterday and got antibiotics. I'm on dose four and while it's feeling better, the swelling isn't shifting yet.

I've just had a good look and there's basically a huge zit like lump on my gum. I don't think it's going to go unless the pus comes out. (Full disclosure, I've been through this before with this tooth and it needed lancing before it healed.) It is so sore Sad

Have a dental appointment on Wed (first available) and there are no emergency appointments available today.

I have access to sterile needles (mum is diabetic and I can use one of her lancets)

AIBU to even think about this?

Thanks

Passing through nonchalantly........

borntobequiet · 03/02/2019 20:08

My dentist told me to use hot salty water (as hot as I could bear) swilled round my mouth and “held” on the swelling repeatedly. After a few goes it popped - the relief!

mcdog · 03/02/2019 20:10

There's no way I could leave it alone!! Good luck Smile

chilledteacher · 03/02/2019 20:18

Shamelessly place marking for an update later

pigletpie2177 · 03/02/2019 20:27

Oooh shamelessly bookmarking - normally have to go to sporner corner for this 😂

QuestionableMouse · 03/02/2019 20:36

I have done this. It will pop in seconds, I promise. No landing needed.

QuestionableMouse · 03/02/2019 23:26

It burst on its own and truly disgusting amounts of crap came out. Most of it went down the sink but here you werdios go 😂😂😂SmileGrin

It feels a lot flatter and not so swollen but I think there might be more in there.

Noice.

TheLostTargaryen · 04/02/2019 00:05

Good for you. It must feel so much better now.
I have a smallish puss filled abscess that pops up every couple of months (sometimes every couple of days for a short spell) and all it takes is a good shove from behind and it pops like a zit. I don't know why it comes or why it stays away for so long but it doesn't cause any real pain or anything, it's just a nasty gross abscess under a molar that doesn't need antibiotics or anything.

Popping the bastard will never not be satisfying as hell.

QuestionableMouse · 04/02/2019 00:16

It does feel better! The swelling in my face has also gone down quite a bit. Have a feeling it might need draining again though.

Excellent work though I wouldn't fancy it either. Hope you feel better

borntobequiet · 04/02/2019 06:52

Pleased for you Smile

QuestionableMouse · 04/02/2019 11:32

It feels so much better this morning. My gum is flat and not swollen like it has been and the pain is much reduced.

It did break open again last night and about a tablespoon of dark blood mixed with pus came out. I'm guessing the pressure had made a bruise or something like which also needed to come out.
