Oooh MN. Why can't I get it into my thick head that I'm too old to drink like a teenager.

Last night's after-work pub session ended early but after no dinner and only salad for lunch I was high as a bloody kite by 8.30!

In spite of an early night and lots of water I've been able to do nothing all day but clean my house and watch old episodes of River Cottage. Made fish and vegetables earlier but only picked at it.

Am about to steal myself to go to the corner shop downstairs for emergency supplies.

Give me your recommendations! I think one sweet, one savory and one drink will do the trick but open to ideas. He sells pretty much everything. Go!

I am having Mac cheese (Charlie Bingham's. Is awesome) but feeling the need for snacks big time. In place of counseling for numerous pants I found today behind the sofa. 6 yr old DS was Hiding them in a dirty protest not to wear clean ones I was presenting every day. 17 PAIRS. Confused

ItsHardToExplain · 02/02/2019 19:49

These will sort you out.
They do salt and vinegar, salted and chip shop curry.
So yummy.

@Thisnamechanger

I’ve had practice. Too much of it.

Oreos only work dipped in coffee or with Baileys.

BikeRunSki · 02/02/2019 19:53

Cheese n Onion McCoys
Lucozade Sport
Peanut butter chunky kit Kat

GottenGottenGotten · 02/02/2019 20:06

I think you did well op, in the circumstances.

Although someone mentioned angel delight... Butterscotch angel delight topped with crumbled oreo cookies... Could be on to a winner!

BeanTownNancy · 02/02/2019 20:24

Rice crispies and chocolate- to make cakes. Eaten warm out of the bowl.

(I am a disgrace to women everywhere!)

@OurChristmasMiracle - fuck no, you're a champion! Just last week I sent my husband out to the shop for exactly this reason. Am 6 months pregnant so get away with convincing him I really need snacks.

3in4years · 02/02/2019 21:03

I know I'm late but want to play (fantasise). 3 under 5s and fighting flu and the kids still aren't asleep! No cooking tonight so I might get:

Plain Pringles
Dime
I'm won over by the OJ and sparking water idea.

KarineAimee · 02/02/2019 21:09

Agree that it needs to be full fat coke.

S&V kettle chips (big bag) and —several— a double decker. Double deckers are IMHO the most underrated chocolate bar.

KarineAimee · 02/02/2019 21:10

Doh! Strike through fail Confused

SummerHouse · 02/02/2019 21:15

I -stole- ate the double deckers from both my boys selection packs. #winner

SummerHouse · 02/02/2019 21:16

Love a strike through fail. Grin

Zwischenwasser · 02/02/2019 21:40

A crisp and cheese on soft white bread. (Cheese MUST be supermarket cheddar, not some artisan shite)

Full fat coke

A double decker

Polkapjs · 02/02/2019 21:50

Depends on severity. High level- fat coke abs soft mints.
Medium - bacon frazzles anducozade
Mild- McDonald’s then Chinese with crisps in between
OJ and sparkling water sounds tremendous though

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 02/02/2019 21:56

Tell you what I rediscovered lately, and that's Boost bars. Surprisingly yummy still in a world where so much chocolate doesn't taste as good as it used to

SummerHouse · 03/02/2019 10:42

Indeed. A boost bar is a stalwart of the confectionery industry. A ray of light in a world of disappointing let downs. "I wish I hadn't eaten that" said no one about a boost bar ever.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/02/2019 11:11

they just pulled a lamb

I'm not H F-W but I'm guessing a pulled lamb is not the same as pulled pork Wink

serenoa · 03/02/2019 11:25

Lindt creme brulee milk chocolate (Waitrose are reliable for this)

Sour cream and chive Quinoa chips - Amazon sell these in multiple (emergency!) packs.

Definitely second the recommendation for fresh orange juice in sparkling water, lovely. :-)

LaurieMarlow · 03/02/2019 11:28

Full sugar coke, no substitutions
Boost
Those chip shop McCoys things

LaurieMarlow · 03/02/2019 11:33

I fucking love boost bars. Little miracles. And as for boost bites, drools.

I attribute at least a stone of my pregnancy weight to boost bites.

serenoa you are so middle class in your hangover preferences Grin

SummerHouse · 03/02/2019 11:44

I once went camping and a gravel / sandy pathway kept giving me a strange sense of deja vu. Much walking on the path and deep thought led me to enlightenment. It was a physical representation of a boost bar. Grin

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 03/02/2019 12:08

My ultimate hangover cure is a fish finger and potato waffle sandwhich. I know, it sounds disgusting but trust me, it works.

ToffeePennie · 03/02/2019 12:41

I don’t know about a “hangover cure” having never had one, but my customary “I feel dreadful and need a junk food hug” is;
Coca Cola (diluted with water to make it flat if I feel sick)
The biggest bar of glaxay caramel possible
About 5 Jacobs crackers (the really hard square ones) with cream cheese.
If I’m really going hard and craving the crap - a couple of lemon refreshers bars and a tin of new poatoes (hot) with cheese and butter and a slice of bread to mush it between.

serenoa · 03/02/2019 12:42

@LaurieMarlow

Middle class??? Nooooo... Grin

Angeladelight · 03/02/2019 12:45

I get all the fluids when I’m hungover, full fat coke, latte, lucozade and water. Usually pick at salt and vinegar twist crisps, cookies then order a lovely pizza in the evening. Sorts me out! Wish I was hungover now to justify the binge eat Grin
