Electric hob

MyPatronusIsAnOrca · 02/02/2019 13:08

Sorry not the most riveting topic; but does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean an electric hob?

I’ve had some milk boil over onto the hob and it’s now burned on and no amount of cleaning is shifting it. So far I’ve tried, fairy liquid, bicarbonate of soda and a mr muscle cleaning spray (not all at once!).

I’m reluctant to use anything abrasive in case it scratches the hob.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thank you !

Throw it out and get a gas one, awful awful things. (Joking obviously but figured it's not dissimilar to 'just move house then' which is so commonly seen here).
I have no useful advice

Jiggeriepokerie · 02/02/2019 13:16

Barkeepers Friend shifts everything from my hob. Best thing ever!

TheQueef · 02/02/2019 13:18

You can buy a special scraper, Wilkos sell them.
I love barkeepers too.

Oysterbabe · 02/02/2019 13:18

Just move house?

DorothyZbornak · 02/02/2019 13:18

I swear I'm not Mrs Hinch but 'the pink stuff' was the only thing that worked when I had a pot of rice boil over on my electric hob.

Boyskeepswinging · 02/02/2019 13:19

I swear Lidl Lemon Washing Up liquid has some extraordinary super ingredient in it. My DH We often burn stuff on our halogen hob and it comes off like magic with the washing up liquid. I think it's about 50p a bottle, too. Cannot recommend highly enough.

TheQueef · 02/02/2019 13:24

I use aldi washing up liquid, neat with some sugar if it's a greasy burn.
Works a treat.

AviatorShades · 02/02/2019 13:30

From Savers I buy Hob Brite, works a treatSmile

AlanThePig · 02/02/2019 13:37

Another vote for bar keepers friend. That stuff is bloody amazing. I recently tried Pink Stuff as well and it doesn't come close for me.

Bumblebee39 · 02/02/2019 13:39

I use fairly liquid, a splash of hot water from the kettle and a washing up sponge
I've got everything off there with that

I do give it a spray with zoflora and buff it with a tea towel if I get time though it gets rid of any smears

MeetJoeTurquoise · 02/02/2019 13:42

You need a scraper, Minky do one for a couple of quid on eBay. Brilliant piece of kit.

justasking111 · 02/02/2019 13:43

Try a credit/loyalty card for scraping once soaked.

OneShotFinch · 02/02/2019 13:46

I second the Hob Brite recommendation. I always keep this stuff in since I got an electric hob!

Howvery · 02/02/2019 13:50

Those suggesting Barkeepers Friend. Do you find the powder, cream or spray the best for general cleaning and limescale?
Sorry to hijack OP

Nacreous · 02/02/2019 13:54

I use hob brite or jif/cif.

TheQueef · 02/02/2019 13:55

Barkeepers powder How where is the scale?

Peachypeaches · 02/02/2019 14:34

We use Hob Brite and hob scraper, it works brilliantly, ours is 10yrs old now and doesn’t have a mark on it!

MyPatronusIsAnOrca · 02/02/2019 14:37

I’ve never heard of Barkeepers, will have a look. Thank you.

To those suggesting move house; I’m inclined to agree! I’ve always had gas cookers previously and much prefer them.

We ripped the kitchen out after buying this house and had the full intention of replacing the then electric hob with a gas one until we found out there’s no gas to the kitchen and that was one job too far.

Electric hob is a pain - so many times something has boiled over as I forget that turning it off isn’t enough and you have to physically move the pan.

I have the same problem, nothing seems to clean it, have tried fairy liquid, cif, astonish and hob brite, nothing works.

GummyGoddess · 02/02/2019 14:50

Magic eraser?

Highonthehill · 02/02/2019 14:52

Set fire to it?

Bicarb with vinegar or lemon juice or cheap washing up liquid

Dont use those metal Scourers... I made that mistake.... walked away whistling innocently.
