To ask Integrated or Freestanding?

I think I need to replace my dishwasher. I don't live my kitchen, it was there when I moved in it nothing wrong with it so I doubt I'll change it for a few years, maybe 10+ as they sound expensive and I've got better things to spend money on Grin

Should I get integrated as it'll probably be there a while, and I assume I can add a different front if it's still going strong when I do replace the kitchen. Or should I go freestanding?
I think I prefer freestanding, but then I have to worry about what it looks like as well as the efficiency, cleaning ability, which online score etc Wink

What do other prefer?

Any top dishwasher recommendations also appreciated. Let's pretend for a minute l have a limitless budget... Is it worth spending the extra few £000 to get eg a Miele?

My last few dishwashers have all got clogged spray arms. I scrape the plates clean so I don't know why this is but it really annoys me. I wash them out once every couple of weeks but it seems to make no difference. Plus the spray arm holes are tiny and you can't take the arm apart, so it ends up clogged with big bits whihh won't come out. If it's worth the money I can go pricey, but is it all show rather than utility?

Thanks for all help

Check what will fit. Freestanding will require adjustments to the plinth that runs under the cabinets and may not be same width/depth.

I like semi-integrated as the control panel is still visible, but I know this is not most people's choice (Judging by the relatively small number of semi-integrated models around)

Magicpaintbrush · 01/02/2019 20:57

Our freestanding dishwasher had more space inside than our current integrated one - I miss it.

Hermano · 01/02/2019 20:57

I wondered about that steam badger. Given I've got integrated at the moment could I get semi integrated or would I need to order a new front panel which fits? Or would I get a carpenter to cut a hole?

Not much of a view on freestanding vs integrated, other than integrated may have a smaller capacity and you will have less choice.
Model-wise, we have an indesit, which has been very reliable so far.

Steamedbadger · 01/02/2019 21:22

Yes, you'd need a smaller panel for semi-integrated.

Freestanding

TheDogsMother · 01/02/2019 22:48

I much prefer integrated as I like every being hidden away. We have Neff everything including dishwasher as so far very pleased

Bestseller · 01/02/2019 22:51

We had our kitchen fitted with integrated appliances which was a mistake imo. They do look better perhaps but they cost more and generally have a smaller capacity in the same space.

jackstini · 01/02/2019 22:58

I have dish drawers and absolutely love them. Would not go back to any other version
One can be on whilst filling the other so never any dirty dishes waiting

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 01/02/2019 23:14

Integrated looks more streamlined, but the choice is less. We looked at a Miele, but it was £800 or so. There was a Beko, with a wide range of programmes, quiet enough that it shines a red light on the floor when it’s on and a cutlery tray as well as a basket. AO delivered the following day, after we looked in a store. Beko are made by Grundig. It was about £350.

Our last two dishwashers (in rentals) have been Siemens. I will be buying a freestanding dishwasher when I move back to the Uk, as I like more space inside. I will be looking at Siemens as they seem reliable.

always freestanding, much more choice in appliances and if they go wrong it's easy to pull out to repair.
the kickboard can be cut to fit if you want.

Schmoobarb · 01/02/2019 23:52

Our applicances are integrated. Tbh it wouldn’t really have been my choice but it’s not a big kitchen and it looks sleeker. Dishwashers I’ve always found a fair amount of choice, washing machines less so.

But it is a pain to take in and out if it needs fixed/replaced and for that reason if it goes again I think I’ll splurge on a more expensive one (we’ve got a Bosch one currently).

Schmoobarb · 01/02/2019 23:54

Ours is a 12 place and doesn’t really seem smaller than an equivalent free standing. We had integrated appliances when we moved into this house and they’ve all needed replaced so when we did the kitchen we just got integrated again as the appliances were quite new. Except the fridge freezer the integrated one was terrible.

Celticrose · 01/02/2019 23:59

We have recently moved into a new house which was turn key. All appliances in kitchen are integrated. My new dishwasher definitely doesn't hold the same amount as my old Siemens which was 19 years old when we left it behind. Also wish we had not opted for the Candy appliances and had upgraded them to maybe Bosch
