DD(2) Thrush, what is this cream?

CREAMHELP911 · 01/02/2019 17:20

So DD (2 years) has thrush, doctor has prescribed this cream that says external use only? So I'm guessing you shouldn't really put it inside your labia ?Or is it ok as long as it doesn't go inside your vagina ?

Sorry, but iv never had any type of problem in that area with thrush or UTI so I don't know what the heck I'm doing...

It's just to be used on the outside, not put inside the vagina.

WhenLifeGivesYouLemonsx · 01/02/2019 17:25

It's anti fungal for vaginal / yeast infections

DoneLikeAKipper · 01/02/2019 17:25

Maybe read the instructions.

Houseonahill · 01/02/2019 17:28

Yeah you can use it all over the outside and the labia but not actually up inside the vagina

FaithInfinity · 01/02/2019 17:29

External means not to be taken internally (as in through the digestive system). So it’s fine to use for the area in question.

Lonecatwithkitten · 01/02/2019 17:30

It is generic canestan cream so not in vagina, but on labia folds and surrounding area.

Confusedbeetle · 01/02/2019 17:33

It means dont eat it

TropicPlunder · 01/02/2019 17:33

Technically, 'external use only' just means don't swallow it, and it's put on all creams, ointments etc. Don't worry about it getting inside (although that would be hard to apply purposely), there are pessaries available if problem is inside! And these contain the same ingredient as the cream. Clotrimazole is an antifungal

grenadezombie · 01/02/2019 17:35

Yes external means don't eat it.

LuckyLou7 · 01/02/2019 17:51

Maybe read the instructions
Absolutely this.

Confusedbeetle · 01/02/2019 17:53

I think I would actually gently put a little on the inner labia as that's where it will be harbouring the thrush. Has she been on antibiotics or any other reason to upset her normal balance of yeast/fungal? Some bio yogurts might be useful for her to eat ( although I think some people do use them topically!

CREAMHELP911 · 01/02/2019 18:39

@DoneLikeAKipper @LuckyLou7 I'm not an idiot, there is no need to be rude. She has had similar creams for her eczema and I was speaking to the GP about that also so wanted to check she hadn't prescribed cream for that by accident.

Thank you so much for all of the HELPFUL replies, Like I said iv never personally had anything like this before or any type of need for a cream so wasn't sure, regardless of reading the instructions and googling the cream & even though it did say online what is was for I would rather get a second opinion from someone who had used the product, before using it on my DD.

CREAMHELP911 · 01/02/2019 18:43

@Confusedbeetle No its been a while since she has had antibiotics, we were all ill last week though DH had Flu influenza A, luckily DD and I had the flu vaccine so just had cold symptoms.

MuddyMoose · 01/02/2019 18:48

The instructions would of still said use externally & the OP would still have been confused. There's no need for some people to be so snippy.

Glad you've found some answers now OP & hope your DD is better soon.

CREAMHELP911 · 01/02/2019 18:50

@MuddyMoose Thank you 😊 x

Yywhatever · 01/02/2019 19:03

Just as pps have said, she can put it anywhere its needed on the area, but not inside her vagina. Doesn't matter if it gets in there though, wont harm

TeddyIsaHe · 01/02/2019 21:21

People are being snippy because there is an endless amount of shit/pee/child/vagina/penis trolls and this is a perfect example of one. Even if it’s not. It pays to be cautious on this site, That’s all.

ChesterCake · 01/02/2019 21:27

I’m 26 and asked my mum how to apply thrush cream recently! I also wanted clarification if it goes up inside or just around the labia. OP isn’t a idiot for asking

TeddyIsaHe · 01/02/2019 21:49

That’s fine if you want to share that kind of information; go ahead. But I’m just explaining why people are (rightfully) cautious of doing so. Especially when the subject matter is a 2 year old. That’s all.

agnurse · 01/02/2019 21:52

Not trying to insult your intelligence or anything, but do be cautious that you don't put her eczema cream on there by mistake or because of the itching. Likely her eczema cream is a steroid, and that will decrease the immune response, making the yeast go INSANE.

U2HasTheEdge · 01/02/2019 23:10

Yep, especially when it is in AIBU

The chances are this is a genuine thread, but you can never be sure.

PortiaCastis · 01/02/2019 23:13

Just read the instructions and stop sharing a two year olds personal stuff online

Dvg · 01/02/2019 23:19

@PortiaCastis HAHA seriously? :D firstly the instructions would be confusing to her seem as they would say use "externally" but also a 2 year olds personal stuff??? I doubt she is going to grow older wanting to sue her mum for a question she asked about a babys medical issue online -_-

All she wanted to know was do you put it up there or not and as someone who has accidentally put thrush cream inside .. its a good question and i just thought internally meant ingested and external was just... on skin including inside.

Schuyler · 02/02/2019 00:05

YABU. This is a forum where we get repeat offenders pretending to innocently talk about teenagers having periods and children having pee accidents. If you genuinely needed advice, at least swerve AIBU and ask on children’s health.
