In expecting people just to turn right and get out of my way?

Okayyyyy, I turn right at a T-junction with a very busy road every morning to take the kids to school.
Lots of traffic coming from the right (going into town) with a fair amount coming from the left.
Quite a few people coming from the left turn right into my road.

So - AIBU to expect any traffic coming from the left and wanting to turn into my road just to get on and do it?

Why do some people insist on stopping and waving you across, when they have no control over the traffic zooming past them on the way out of town?

What do you do?

If you don't think it's safe just shake your head at them and wave them on.

That's what I do, HG, but they don't seem too pleased!

YANBU, I have a similar pet hate when trying to cross the road outside my house - 2 lanes of traffic, one going straight ahead, the other going right. The right hand lane has to wait for a filter light on the traffic lights, and the drivers try and wave you across when it's impossible to see the other lane, and whether there's any cars speeding up ready to knock you down as soon as you step out.

When I learnt to drive, I was told not to wave people across when there are other road users around who you can't control.

It's awful isn't it? The worst thing about it is that you know they're trying to be nice.
