to be appalled and also totally moved by Alder Hey's families and staff?

I am totally in awe of all of the parents and staff, and yet bloody hell, 21st century Britain and there's no beds and no nurses!

That lovely dad saying 'no problem, someone else is more poorly' when his own little one is poorly herself. Good god is he entitled to moan out of anyone.

I'm not sure it's the staffs fault there aren't any beds. They didn't make funding and recruitment policy.

IWantaShakerKitchen · 31/01/2019 21:49

I was just reading that back and I have worded it badly- of course it's not their fault. I mean they're doing their absolute best in appalling circumstances.

I'm watching this too. A few tears escaping here.

BillywigSting · 31/01/2019 21:53

I live in Liverpool and am in and out of alder hey with ds quite frequently, was as a child too. (nothing too serious, both under eye clinic and asthma clinic) and can hand on heart say that while it is quite woefully understaffed and underfunded, the staff there give 100%

They really give a crap, and actually properly listen to parents when they say something is not right with their child instead of fobbing them off.

I count myself very lucky to be so close to it

IWantaShakerKitchen · 31/01/2019 21:59

Oh god bless little Casey-Jack. May he rest in peace.

It makes me so angry, the amazing compassionate staff that give there all while trying to juggle an impossible scenario. I don’t no how anyone can vote tories after watching this programme, I rally don’t.

SneakyGremlins · 31/01/2019 22:22

What channel is this on? Not heard of it.

oh4forkssake · 31/01/2019 22:27

It was heartbreaking. I am so angry. What an absolutely amazing group of people. It’s disgusting that they have to work under that level of stress with such few resources. They are all absolute Trojans.

And agree OP, God Bless Casey-Jack. Wishing his family peace.

ILoveAllRainbows · 31/01/2019 22:28

gingajewel We are in this mess because we had 13 years of Labour who encouraged everyone to become dependent on handouts.

The Tories are just clearing up the mess and getting the blame as has happened repeatedly over the last few 60 years or so.

oh4forkssake · 31/01/2019 22:28

@Sneaky it’s ‘Hospital’ - was on BBC2 at 9

DocusDiplo · 31/01/2019 22:29

ILoveAllRainbows You're wrong.

Twotabbycats · 31/01/2019 22:30

sneakygremlins it's Hospital on the BBC - all episodes on iPlayer if you want to catch up!

CloserIAm2Fine · 31/01/2019 22:31

I’ve not watched this one yet, but watching staff try to work in a flooded hospital (I think the Royal?) while right next door a brand new almost finished hospital sits empty because carrillion went bust, with suppliers that weren’t paid even though the hospital paid carrillion, that made me so so so angry with a system that allowed that

loonyloo · 31/01/2019 22:32

ILoveAllRainbows people getting seriously ill is relying handouts now is it?

valentinoandme · 31/01/2019 22:32

Unfortunately, it is a very real depiction of the NHS as a whole. One of the only reasons that it still exists is down to the goodwill of all the staff who often work way more hours than they actually get paid for simply because they care Sad

Oysterbabe · 31/01/2019 22:34

This is close to my heart, my 3 year old had open heart surgery in the summer.
The staff are amazing working in such a stressful environment.

IAmWonderWoman · 31/01/2019 22:34

As a nurse I can say I love this programme, it’s so honest and shows the real pressure we are under all the time.

The first two series in London and Nottingham were great too.

Lostmychristmasspirit · 31/01/2019 22:41

Alder Hey staff are amazing. I have had to go there with DD so many times and despite the horrendous working conditions the staff are wonderful.

gingajewel · 31/01/2019 22:43

@ilovealleainbows your very wrong. The nhs is free to all, no one relies on handouts to use it. The tories are bailing no one out but themselves, people who have money, who have private health care and who will never know what it is like to have to rely on the nhs and be told that there daughters operation has been cancelled twice due to lack of beds. This is the tories doing and it is a disgrace to see. Anybody who could possibly vote for the tories after seeing what effect they are having on our nhs blows my mind.

Soontobe60 · 31/01/2019 22:49

Interesting that of the only 3 paediatric cardiac surgeons in the north west, two are not English. That's why immigration is such a positive thing!
Those doctors and nurses are worth every penny they earn.

DarkDarkNight · 31/01/2019 23:08

Seriously? The poor Conservatives are just trying to clean up Labour’s mess?! The Conservatives are starving the NHS of funding. Fuck all to do with the Labour parties benefits policy.

Hugglessnuggles · 31/01/2019 23:28

I was a higher rate tax payer so on a good salary before I became unwell. Trust me I am grateful for all the ‘handouts’ I get. But trust me even more when I say, it’s nowhere near my take home salary before. I would rather be working than on benefits. Unfortunately life hasn’t given me that opportunity. But I’m hopeful in the next few years I can go back to work and stop accepting these ‘handouts’.

Oh and have a Biscuit off me

oh4forkssake · 01/02/2019 00:15

Exactly

Kpo58 · 01/02/2019 00:26

Or the result of the government not investing in its own people, so that people who had the potential of becoming surgeons didn't because of poor education/unable to afford to attend university due to fees and/or living expenses/not enough spaces at university/lack of affordable and/or available childcare.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 01/02/2019 00:58

Haha about it being all the Labour govt's fault - really, nothing to do with Thatcher's implemented changes to the NHS then, nothing to do with that at all? Hahaha.

Partisan discussions will end with no one changing their opinions, because they can't - but anyone working in the NHS will know.
