To ask if this is okay in primary school?

Each week the class are given a short test on something they are to practice at home. Tests are then swapped marked by other pupil. Teacher then counts down from 10/10...0/10 - pupils put hand up to show what they got.
Is this okay?

Each week DS is angry/sad after school as despite putting in effort struggles and then feels humiliated with low score. Got to the point now that he thinks there’s no point in trying because “he always does rubbish”.

We did this when I was at primary school (I'm 34) but on reflection I think it is pretty demeaning. I was always good at spelling and times tables (back then) so couldn't tell you the impact on those that struggled. I'm sure your DC has other skills - I was rubbish at sport - to be fair you can always see who came last in a race and it was always me. I found that hard and sporting ability seemed to be more revered by the kids than spelling and maths. So maybe it's a way of teaching kids resilience??

If your son is reacting like that I think you should tell the teacher the impact it's having. X
